ThomasParty,

If you want possibly the best steak you'll ever eat in your life, there is a Ruth's Chris steakhouse www.ruthschris.com a short drive away...we went there the evening of my consult since it was my birthday.

I couldn't fully enjoy it because I was so excited and nervous, but it was wonderful as it usually is.

We also had the Club Suite, which worked well for us. I had the breakfast the last day of my stay. It was good. It was nice for my husband to be able to go on the morning of surgery and eat while I showered and stuff. The Club room also has a few more amenities, and we were far from any renovations.

Best wishes ladies! How exciting!

I had my surgery on Dec. 31st and we ended up going down the Monday so that we could have time to explore the town. We didn't have any problems until Tuesday and the banging and hammering started. I called the front desk and explained to them that i was having surgery tomorrow and there was no way i could have all that noise they said no problem and moved us to the other side of the hotel in a matter or minutes. So all you have to do is ask and they will move you. The hotel staff was GREAT, the whole hotel was very clean and the bed was GREAT. Especailly the pillows. We to got the Club Room and you are on the very top floor and you get lots of extras and breakfast is included, which was worth the little extra money just for the breakfast.

My daughter went to UNC and in talking to her about favorite places to eat, she mentioned a lot of the locals love COSMIC CANTINA. It's a small restaurant down an alley right off of Franklin Street. They feature homemade burritos, nachos, etc. Nothing fancy, just delicious. Enjoy.

Right down the access road from the hotel is a place called "Baileys" - you don't even have to go onto the main road. My DH and I went there because they have tournament size pool tables and we like to play. But they also have great sandwiches and meals. If you sign up for their club (free) you get a free appetizer. Tasty and fun. I sent DH there for lunch after I got settled in the hotel room after TR to take a nap because I didn't want to be kept awake by the TV. And it was only a few minutes away if I needed him. Good luck!

My surgery s scheduled for Januar 27th, we will be checking in on the 25th since my pre-op is on the 26th. Thanks 4 the info we will remember it. And yes, I will surely ask o be moved to the non-renovation side. We got the packagedeal with breakfast included so that will help. I think it is a Club Suite. [Smile] Best of luck to you and Baby Dust... May God Bless You On Your Baby Journey.

Yes, that is what i meant. When you are leaving the hotel parking lot turn right. Follow that highway and it leads to Wal-Mart, a Lonestar, Outback and several other places. I mentioned McDonalds because after surgery DH was starving and I was not in the mood or condition to go anywhere so it was great to run through on the way back to the hotel. There is a steak place in the hotel but it was pretty pricey. Also, there is room service but a decent breakfast is going to run you around $20.00 (2 eggs, bacon and toast) for two people. Not including a beverage and delivery charges. So, needless to say we ventured out. Sorry about the confusion. Oh one more thing. I just had my TR on 12/19 and the hotel was under renovation. Save yourself a headache and ask to be moved to the opposite end. It is a nice place, room was clean, staff was great but the noise was unbearable with trying to recover (I was on the end of renovation). A lady that had hers the same day was on the opposite end and she had no problems at all. Good Luck!

Did you mean to say that the area you are talking about is only 5 minutes away? That wouldn't be a bad drive. Mcdonalds is okay for a lunch but not dinner... Hubby prefers steak, seafood, etc.

There are a lot of things around the area. I know it does not sound great but is very conveinent for the DH but a McDonalds is next door. We had the best luck going towards Durham to find a steak house such as Loanstar and Outback. Ask the front desk and tell them what you have in mind. The area I am talking about is not five minutes from the Sheraton. Lots of great places and oh the hotel has internet if you have a laptop. Good Luck! Lorrie

Can anyone reccommend a local place to get lunch or dinner while at Chapel Hill?
