2peas, Welcome, I am the nurse anesthetist at the Tubal Reversal Center. I can certainly understand your being anxious, so let me refer you to an article I wrote about anesthesia here and our team approach toward patient care. I hope this eases you mind, we are always here if you have any questions at all.

Shortly after scheduling you will get a call from our anesthesiology department. Decisions regarding your anesthesia are tailored specifically for you. The type of anesthesia you receive depends on your general health, the nature of tubal reversal surgery, and your preferences. To facilitate this interview, please fill out the online MEDICAL AND ANESTHESIA HISTORY FORM shortly after you schedule your surgery. Martha

2peasinapod, a lot of women experience the anxiety of being put to sleep. General anesthesia is used but as dani_elle mentioned, our anesthesiologist will answer all of your questions and can provide medication to ease the anxiety. Hope to meet you in the summer!

I was really nervous too. The anesthesiologist (mine was Dr Hertz) did a great job at answering our questions and putting me at ease. Honestly, on the day of the surgery, when you go in there to get prepped, they give you pills that counter the anxiety and jitters before you go into the operating room. Once you go in the operating room is really, really quick how fast it is, that you go to sleep. And before you know it, you are waking up and sipping on apple juice. They don't do the local anesthesia here. But they do everything necessary to make sure that you are comfortable.

I'm new to the message board and I am hoping to schedule my TR sometime this summer. Do I have a choice about local or general anesthesia? I'm a little anxious about being put to sleep. Let me know what to expect. Thanks.
