He'll probably love being with his grandparents and the time will fly by. My kids are older, but are looking forward to having a few days with their grandparents. They've never been ones to miss us much. When we drop them off, I'll be lucky if they'll stand still long enough for us to give them a hug and a kiss good-bye!

cb82 - we did something different. My DH and I just do not leave our kids with other people for more than a few hours based on our personal convictions. SO - instead of leaving our kids, DH took the time off work and stayed home with our children and I had a friend accompany me. My husband watched her kids during the day while her husband worked half-days. It worked out great. My friend was excellent, and as awesome as my husband is, my friend was probably a better travel companion, because she is a woman and medically-minded and knew what to do, ask, say, etc., where my husband would have needed me to direct him AND he and I would have been so stressed worrying about our kids.
Just another possibility!

cb82 I understand what you are saying. I go to college and my little one was 4 when I had the TR. I was with her all day most days. I took classes on the net so that I could stay with her. I was worried about leaving her but she was ok. We were able to call home and talk to her;and I took pictures of things for her so she could see where we went and what we did. I bet your little man will be just fine. He is use to you being at work already and you can call and talk to him.If he has never stayed away from home at night you have time to let him before you have your surgery so everything will not be new to him. I wish you all the best on getting your TR done.

cb82,
Unfortunately, we do not allow children on the premises and your RA (responsible adult) will need to be here with you the day of your consultation and the entire time on the day of your surgery. If you need more detail regarding this situation, please contact our office.

I will second asaunde. The rooms are nice, but not very large and there isn't much to do at this time of year for a child. You will also be tired and sore, it would do you good to take that time to rest and relax so that you can get back on your feet quickly. [Smile]

Best of luck!

thanks- that is kind of what I figured- we do not want to bring a babysitter with us - though I am sure that I would get plenty of rest even if he came (my husband is a wonderful father)bringing another adult would be difficult. I am a working mom, so he is ok without me for short periods- but I am not sure how he will do at night- MAybe I am more worried about how I will do- LOL:)

You would most definately need to bring a babysitter with you, as children aren't allowed in the surgery center. TBH, I don't know if I would have wanted to have a child with me when I had my surgery. Since you're having your surgery 8 months or so from now, maybe you could start with small amounts of time being away from your son and building the time up till your time is here for your TR? Maybe then there wouldn't be as much seperation anxiety? HTH

Good Luck!

I would not recommend bringing your son for a couple of reasons. << although you can, I'm sure>>

a. You will need to bring someone with you to watch him when you go to get your procedure done. Children are not allowed in the waiting or surgical area of CHTR. << the extra person can't be your responsible adult, you chose to bring with you, which might require an extra room>>

b. after the procedure, you will not feel like caring for a child, especially an active 6 year old. <<you will be pain free for awhile, but you need to take it easy and NOT over do it, otherwise when the pain meds wear off, your body will surely tell you, you over did it:)>>

I know it's hard to part with a child but the best thing for you after the procedure, is to rest.

I'm sure your son will be fine:) When you return home, you can give him a treat from being a good sport:)

Just my thoughts....It's up to you.

So i am planning to get my TR done in May or June 2010. I have a sitter set up and grandparents to help take care of our 4 children while me and my husband are away, but I have never left my youngest - he is 6 years old so it is not like he is to little to be left with grandparents for a few days, but I am not sure he can handle the split nor can I. I am wondering if anyone knows if we can bring him.
