I am also 43. My cramps improved, but I have done things prior to the TL and TR to alleviate them too. I did some experimenting. I tried laying off all caffeine and sugary foods for like 1.5 weeks prior to my period. It helped a lot with both my cramping and my sore boobs. It is not easy to do. I also have a prescription for anaprox. I took them a lot after TL since the cramps were worse. I take them when it is bad but I have not taken many at all since TR. Perhaps 2 pills in 3 cycles, usually on day 1 or 2 only...I have personally never taken it but I hear Evening Promrose Oil Supplements are helpful too (for cramps as well as other PMS symptoms) Good luck and let us know how you do!

Hi Ladies
Thanks for this forum. I had my TR June 9/08 and now i am enjoying being complete again. My moods are so much better but unfortunately I am still cramping almost every day of my cycle. I had two normal periods immediately post TR but now it seems I am back to the way i used to be. I feel like pulling out my hair, the cramps are too much, esp tonight.
I know AF if just around the corner, I just wish i didn't have this pain all the time.
I found a new doctor and i like him , and i was told that having cramps like this is common as women get older. I am 43, i wish my mom had of told me about this.
Now i am wondering what was the point of the surgery if i am still going to suffer so much every month, then i remember how good i felt after the surgery, to be me again.
Is there anyone else out there suffering like me?

AMEN to getting this info to women, their husbands or partners, and especially the medical community who desperately needs to be pushed outside of the comfort bubble. Doctors need to open their minds and their ears to begin understanding this syndrome and accepting that PTLS is real and fixable for most women!

Members of the Tubal Reversal Message Board often discuss post tubal ligation syndrome and how tubal reversal surgery often alleviates these symptoms. These women uniformly disagree with the concept that symptoms that they have experienced since their tubal ligation are “just in their heads”. They are certain that their symptoms are not imaginary and are grateful when their symptoms disappear after tubal reversal surgery. Here we welcome posts on the subject of PTLS.

PTLS Relief With Tubal Reversal
Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome, or PTLS, is not a widely talked about subject in the medical community. Momzilla's Tubal Reversal Story
If you suffer from Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome, you will want to read Momzilla's story. Momzilla had a tubal ligation three years ago, and like many of Dr. Berger's patients, came to Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center seeking relief of PTLS symptoms. The Reality of PTLS and Tubal Reversal
Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome has been the subject of controversy among the medical world for decades. But for the thousands of women who experience the devastating symptoms of PTLS every day, the syndrome is real. Some women who have had their tubes tied experience heavier menstrual bleeding, increased cramping and mood swings, just to name a few. Aside from the obvious reason for wanting another baby after tubal ligation, the desire for relief of symptoms is another reason why many women choose to have tubal reversal surgery at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center.

PTLS Questions Discussed on the Tubal Reversal Message Board
Questions about Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome (PTLS) are discussed frequently by members of the Tubal Reversal Message Board. An active forum topic is initiated by 'michelle381' who writes, "I had my tubes tied July 25 2001, 10 hrs after my son was born. At the time of my tubal ligation I was 30 and had never had any problem with my period prior to my TL. I had regular periods that came every 28 days and lasted about 6 days. No cramping, no mood swings. And now I'm in pain 3 weeks out of the month. Extreme crapping, back pain. Major mood swings. I'm tired all the time and have headaches so bad that I have to be in a dark room. Now it seems to get worse as the years go on. I can't live like this anymore. I have been treated for the headaches and cramping but it's always with pain killers and having 3 kids from the ages of 4 to 9. I can't take them and try to function. I don't want to mask the problem. I want someone who can fix the problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction?"

About Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome and Tubal Reversal
Before my tubal reversal, I would get cyclic migraines - they only started happening after my tubal ligation. Two days before my period started, I would be down with a migraine, and it would last until a few days after the bleeding had stopped. This went on for 12 yrs. Along with that, I would experience horrible leg and back pain, my bleeding would last 7-9 days with heavy clotting and terrible cramps that otc meds didn't ease. There were other lesser symptoms - hair loss, weight gain, etc. I had my TR Sept 04 - my very next cycle took me by surprise, as there was no migraine to warn of the impending start. I have not had a migraine since. No more leg or back pain - my actual bleeding went from over a week of heavy flow/clotting to two days of heavy flow and three days of light flow. Very little clotting, and only mild cramps the first day. My hair is again thick. No more leg or back pain either. I suffered for 12 yrs, the docs were unable to explain what was wrong - it was suggested that I go on BC (how ridiculous to have to take bc after being sterilized!). Many docs do not believe in PTLS - many more women all complain of the exact same symptoms all starting after TL. Sorry, but I just do not trust the doctors on this issue. They do not warn of the possible after effects, they brush us off afterwards when we start having problems.

What Happens to Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome After Tubal Reversal?
Tubal Reversal Message Board members discuss the difference in their symptoms of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome before and after tubal reversal surgery. One members states, "I had my tubal reversal due to PTLS. I had a lot of bad symptoms. Mine were fits of rage, no sex drive, could not sleep, weight gain, hair loss, depressed (never was before), terrible long AF's. I had the tubal reversal in 3/06 and by the time of my first cycle most of them were gone. I was much better and my family saw a huge difference in me without me even asking around 3 months. My first AF cycle was back to pre-TL. I was very fortunate that my surgery was a complete success and this happened for me very soon after TR." Another reports, "It takes about a full cycle and you'll notice the difference. I don't know how it works or why, but it works. It's truly amazing."

I thank you for "putting me back together" for giving me the opportunity to have another child. For taking the only decision I have ever regretted it and righting it. For putting something that I had taken up myself and putting it back in God's hands."
