I'm sorry if someone thought that I was comparing and abortion to a DNC morally. I also have faith in Jesus as my savior, so I would never have implied that(for Tanya). I was only saying that I think the same medical procedures are used. As far as scarring goes everybody is different. Not everyones body responds the same. If a medical professional said she needs one then by all means do it. I only said avoid it if possible.

Thanks you guys for all the support. The ER doctor was the one who told me about the D&C. But I started bleeding yesterday and I passed a small clot last night. I was cramping really bad yesterday and still am today. The bleeding is heavier then yesterday so I'm assuming that it doing the work on it's own. I go back tomorrow to have my HCG checked again to make sure it's at a zero if so then i'm good if not at that point I will see what my doctor recommends me to do. With the way my numbers were I'm sure it's came out because I was only 4 weeks the clot wouldn't have been that large anyway.

As far as affecting your fertility or scarring - I've had two D&C's in my life and unless your having repeated abortions or D&C's the chances of affecting your fertility is very small. In fact, I got pregnant two months after my D&C with my TR baby.

If your OB is suggesting an D&C, he may have good reasons for doing so. You make the choice that is right and healthy for you, and both natural m/c and D&C's both have benefits and drawbacks.

Again - sorry for your loss. ((HUGS))

Shakeya - I'm so very sorry for your loss. ((HUGS)) Your numbers are fairly low, so you may m/c on your own in a couple days.

They do use a similar procedure, but please do not compare a D&C to an abortion! Abortion's is an elective procedure to terminate a pregnancy that is still viable, a D&C is typically requested by your doctor to remove products of conception of an unviable pregnancy, but is very often completely unrelated to pregnancy and performed for GYN issues.

I opted for a D&C when I found out my pregnancy was not viable. I was over 10 weeks, and began to m/c on my own the night before. I was in terrible pain, losing quite a bit of blood in large clots. I was thankful for the relief the D&C gave me physically and emotionally, and knowing that all products were removed and that I could start fresh when I'd healed.

As a Catholic - I take offense to the idea of even comparing the removal of a lost pregnancy to the idea of terminating a healthy pregnancy. There are risks to a D&C, but there are risks with doing it on your own as well.

If you can avoid a DNC then I would. If i am not mistaken it is the same procedure as an abortion. This could cause unnecessary scarring that could cause more complications regarding fertility.
I may be wrong but ask your doctor to be sure.

Thanks Paula from what I've been reading it seems like everyone's first BFP is a miscarriage. I'm trying to remain positive but it's so emotional. I just saw a small clot and of course I took a picture of it.

Shakeya,

I am so sorry for your loss. We suffered several losses before we got pregnant with Lydia Grace. You are definitely in my thoughts.

As for your question, you would treat the first day of heavy, AF like flow from the miscarriage as CD1. You can treat it as a regular cycle for purposes of charting and/or determining what your next cycle may be like. Just know that while most women bounce back physically after a miscarriage it may take a cycle or two to return to normal. If you're charting, temping or using OPKs you should be able to tell if you're back to normal right away or not.

Again, I am sorry that you're going through this.

Leann I'm 4 weeks and a couple of days. My last AF was 5-21, I'm not bleeding now so I don't know what to think, but I'm still cramping like my AF is coming. I go back to the doctor on Friday to have my HCG checked so hopefully it's zero by then so I can get ready for next month. So do I count this as a cycle even though I don't have a regular flow of blood? I am so so confused [Frown]

JoAnn yes it really does I just want a solid pregnancy next time. This number stuff drives me crazy. I'm so tired f gettung stuck it's crazy:). I'm praying all goes well next time around.

Shakeya,
I know how you feel. When i got my first BFP on 4/1/09. I m/c on 4/20/09. My first number was 47,270,125, then the night of 4/19/09 i had brownish spoting went to er and hcg was 94. At that time at er i started bleeding red and they sent me home, i went back to doctors on 4/22 hcg was 50 and 4/24 it was 0. I did not have to have a dnc, I m/c on my own. If your numbers go to 0, I dont think you have to have a dnc.I was 6 and half weeks along. How far was you.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Shakeya,

I am sorry for your loss. I went through the same thing a few years ago. My numbers also dropped quickly and my body reacted just as if it were AF. I O'd on time 2 weeks later. I hope the fact that you CAN get pregnant again will bring you comfort through all of this.

Best of luck,

Jo Ann
