Everyone recovers at a different pace. Most people are back to work in 3 - 5 days after surgery depending on what they do for a living. The majority of patients are back to most normal activities in 7 - 10 days. You are correct in no sit-ups, abdominal crunches or lifting anything greater than 15 pounds for 4 weeks after surgery. There are no restricitons on BD after surgery as long as you are not in pain and feel recovered. I know that many of our patients that activily exercise resume walking a few days after surgery and then gradually increase to what they had done before again without sit-ups, crunches or lifting greater than 15 pounds for 4 weeks. Ibuprofen helps a lot with sore muscles!

Hello Hopenow~ I was sore, abdominally, for about 3/4 weeks, still a tiny bit on the right side. I cannot do any sort of crunch/sit up/plank etc. I can do a standing crunch or teeny tiny lying crunches. I am 6 weeks post TR. BD week after TR was fine and has been ever since. We were VERY gentle because we were both afraid of me being hurt, but the week after was okay for me. Every body heals differently. Go slow and see for yourself what your body can and cannot handle.

Since I used to be a very active person prior to TL, I am wondering how soon you can start exercising after TR? I know that the body will need healing, but I am looking forward to energy and being able to get back into one of my favorite pasttimes! I saw that they encouraged walking and for 30 days no lifting greater than 15 lbs. Can anyone elaborate what their experience has been? When they felt ready and were ready to exercise? I guess this could include BD, too!!!!! Thanks!
