I'm going through my primary MD and all my bloodwork is being covered by my insurance company (blue cross blue sheild) as long as it's ordered by my MD insurance covers 100% of it.

Did you follow the link I posted? It really helps to clarify early pregnancy testing. It's really pretty simple-you must continue to get blood work done to ensure it is doubling, until a sac-then pregnancy can be visualized in the uterus. If you've had tubal surgery, you are at an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy. E/P is dangerous and potentially life threatening.
When you come to CHTRC they go over this information, but it's best to know it prior so there are no "surprises". You also need to have an OB/Gyn or general practitioner or midwife that will order the tests for you. Self-ordered tests are more pricey, and will not help you in the event the numbers look bad, the way a doctor or midwife can.
This is why you have to do the monitoring. Please check out the information this site (not the board but the site) had to offer so you can make informed decisions.

I still don't understand why we would have to get blood drawn every 2-3 days. I guess we just call our regular Dr and they can scedule it. What about going to lab corp? Do you just tell them what you need done and give them your insurance card? I'm new to all of this also and don't really understand this.

So the HCG levels that need to be drawn every 2-3 days means you have to go to the doctor's office, sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but I am new to al of this and plan on getting TR in 5/2009
All the tabs on the left of the page can help you to understand the process of TR from the very beginning, until pregnancy and beyond. There is great info about types of TL, TR procedure, what's required before during and after, etc.
I found this to be the best and most comprehensive site, as well as being realistic and upfront with all information!

It's very important when you get a positive pregnancy test after TR that you follow Dr B's protocol to evaluate if your baby is implanted in the uterus. We are all at higher risk for e/p, because our tubes have been "messed with".
The only very early tool for monitoring a pregnancy is Beta HCG levels that are drawn every 2-3 days early on. When the levels reach 1500-2000, a sac should be seen on an u/s. If it isn't it needs to be repeated soon. This helps to rule out e/p.
It's important to find a doctor BEFORE TR that will support early pregnancy monitoring.
All of this information is easily found on this website. I made sure I knew about all of the information before weighing the gravity of having a TR.
Many OB's do not support this...they like BC and sterilization though! Mine initially wanted to do an ablation or a hysterectomy for my problems caused by TL. However, he soon realized it was the TL, and was on board. He does TR, but they cost a lot more through him, and he admits it's not his place of expertise...
Anyway, it's best to have as much of this sorted out prior to TR. The lab work will cost what your portion of lab work costs through your insurance, if you have insurance and a doctor orders the labs-including CHTRC in my case.
If you don't have insurance, I don't know the cost, but lab work isn't cheap. However, the real cost comes in when you get your BFP. You need to have blood work drawn 2-3 times a week and then 1-2 u/s to identify the location of a sac, and later confirm h/b. Sometimes, like in my case, the insurance didn't apply it to obstetrical costs and deductible until much later..so we're arguing about that since I was pregnant from the moment the bloodwork begun.

BearsGirl, my obgyn is not supporting this at all. They think that once you have your tubes tied they should not be untied. They were great to me when I was preg but now not so much. What kind of blood work has to be done. I read that it could cost up to $400.00! For what? My obgyn supports IVF.

I'm not in KY, but I didn't have any issues with payment. I asked CHTRC to fax me a lab order slip..I had the lab work done and my insurance paid their normal portion.

That is the part I am confused about right now. I went to the OB/GYN and he thinks I am totally nuts. I am not sure if he will request the bloodwork. My regular MD is aware of my problems and I hope he will order it .. but I am not sure if it is covered or not. I have an appointment with him soon to discuss this

They said that the blood work cost a lot of money. Are you going to your family dr to have that done. Do you think that insurance pays for that?
