I will have to say that the map Dr B posted is very impressive in person more than in a picture. I was so impressed at how many pins there were in the map from all over the place and had so much pride when DH put our pin in. We drove from Georgia which is about 7 hours. The trip home was not that bad just alot of stopping and bathroom trips. The pillow and blanket that I used was a lifesaver. I felt pretty good after the trip. Thanks Dr B and staff for what you have done. I am 10 post op and I feel great - all of my soreness is gone and I cut the suture knots tonight. Keep up the great work CHTRC!!!!!! Hugs, Lorie

I'm looking at scheduling in September, but we'll be driving from Georgia, which is about 8.5 hours from where I live. Not crazy about the drive, but I want the best, most qualified dr there is to perform the surgery. Angie

We are driving from the Pittsburgh area. It will be about an 8 hour drive, Not really looking forward to it, but can't wait to get it over with and be back home. My surgery is scheduled June 21st.

My dh and I came from WA state; our flight was about 7hrs each way. I also took my pain meds every 4hrs and had my pillow (life saver!!!) so the flight back wasn't bad, although I couldn't imagine riding in a car for all that time. For me, the flight was so much easier Also, wheelchairs were also very handy. LOL

I had my surgery Monday. I had a 10 hour drive back home. WE stopped every couple of hours for me to walk. Taking the pain medicine every 4 hours helped a lot. Yes and do not forget the travel pillow to go between you and your seatbelt. I also folded a blanket up and put my feet up to keep them from hanging and swelling. Just be sure to stay on the meds and get out and walk often.

onemoreis6 - we took a roundabout route - we live near St Louis, on the Illinois side - first we drove to Orlando - to spend a few days with family (DH had just returned from being deployed), took the DD to a few parks, and then were chased up the coast by hurricane Francis! We stopped for a day in Charleston (charlestown?) SC and did the sight seeing thing - ferry boat trip, etc. Arrived at CH the evening before our consult.
The day of the consult, we did sight seeing around CH - walked the campus, the mall, had a light meal, tried to remain calm.
The day of surgery I took it pretty easy - walked around the pool every hour or so, (after my c-sections, I knew that walking a little was best for me) cat napped, and again had a very light dinner.
The next day we started for home - around 10 am. stopping every hour so I could walk around (dont forget your travel pillow to put between you and the seat belt!) and stopped early - around 4pm for the night in a hotel. We were on the road again the next morning by 9, and followed the same routine; stopping every hour so I could walk around a bit. The pain wasnt bad - I did have some swelling. We arrived home late afternoon the second day.
For us, the driving was easy - just lots of stops - 10 to 15 minutes each time, and taking the pain meds every four hours the first two days.

It's going to be a 13 Hour Drive for me from Vermont.. Thought I'd be more comfortable sleeping in the back seat of the Exporer on the way back home, than sitting in a plane.
