I just wanted to add that I had a lap done locally by my doctor several years ago - the results she obtained was that there was nothing that could be done to repair my tubes-she found that there was no proximal tube into the uterous. To make a long story short, I went ahead with the TR surgery with Dr. Berger as my last bit of hope and he found that there was indeed proximal tube into the uterous - I had my TR on November 14th, 2005 and came out with 2.5 and 3.5cm of tube - it's way more that I ever could have hoped for!! I truly believe that many doctors don't have the expertise that Dr. Berger has - that's wy my doctor missed it....

Tracey As far as I know, an HSG prior to TR could tell how much tube remains proximal to the uterus. That might not seem like much, but if you at least know there is some tube opened attached to the uterus, then there is probably SOMETHING that can be done with that, even if there is not much left to attach it to. I have to agree with Steph that the lap procedure is a way more accurate way to be sure. Dr B may have been able to read further into what was in your op report, to be able to say you are a good candidate. I wish you luck and CH will take good care of you! Dancy

Thanks for the response ladies. I think I will discuss it with my DF and go from there. I am leaning toward the lap package with Dr. B but we will see. Steph--I became a member of this board around the time of your TR. I have watched you go through your MC and bounce right back to become pregnant with Allie. I lurk more than I respond by I have followed your journey---you were the first person I met on here. Your story is inspirational. I, too, have an Ali--my daughter's is spelled differently.

Hey Tracey, I had an HSG 2yrs prior to my TR and was told I had enough tube on both sides to repair.. I ended up with 1 tube 2.5 cm.. I don't know what to tell you that is a decision you and your DH will have to make for yourself..Good luck! Michel
I did not have any procedures before TR, but would like to respond. An HSG ahead of time will not really tell you anything because the dye will only go to the site of the tube damage. If your tubes were cauterized 3 times, that could be very misleading. Some doctors cauterize the tube 3 times in the same spot, and some do it in multiple spots. If the dye only goes to the first spot and then stops, it would be almost impossible to tell if there was additional damage. I would let Dr. Berger do your lap procedure. Why subject yourself to more surgery than is necessary? Many docs will tell you "There isn't anything left to repair." because they just don't understand the TR procedure. If they do understand, they are not skilled enough to perform it, so they say it can't be done. 95% of the time Dr. Berger can fix the tubes. I would go with those odds. Good luck!

Hi all- I don't post much but have been a daily lurker for over a year. I am planning on having my TR with in the next few months.-My op report is vague as far as how much tube was removed during TL. It really only states that I had bipolar cautery X 3. I have sent in my op reports and Dr. B says I am a good candidate for TR. I am contemplating having an HSG before TR to see how much tube is left to be repaired. I know that Dr B. offers a lap package but I would really like to know if my tubes are even worth repairing before making the trip to Chapel Hill. My doctor has told me he would "code" the procedure so that my insurance will cover it. He even offered to do a lap prior to TR. Have any of you ladies had an HSG before TR?? Have any of you had a lap via your local doctor before TR?? Thanks--Tracey
