Hi Nic....I had my TT when my youngest was 1-1/2. The only reason I would suggest waiting is because you won't be able to pick up your little one for quite awhile. I didn't have a big pooch to remove so my doc had to do the incision a little higher than he normally would. I don't wear low cut bikini's so the scar is no problem for me. For me recovery wasn't that bad but I'm a tough patient. I was out house shopping through 2 feet of snow 4 days post-op....and I had a drainage bag! Kinda icky but that's what happened. Good luck and congratulations on the birth of your babies!! Kayla

I would have to agree with Cathy R. The TT was much more painful than recovering from a c-section. I always new deep down I wanted more children and was hoping having the TT would convince me otherwise. My youngest just turned three and I knew I wanted more children by the time she was one. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB to have a TL!! I could just kick myself for it!! How easy it would be to get pregnant, but I definately appreciate my 3 girls more(not that I didn't before) but I definately took pregnancy for granted and if I ever get the chance again I know I will savor every queasy moment of it!!

DMZ You are absolutely right about priorities. I hope that my tummy will be ok, but history shows that it probably won't. My DH said I could get another TT after more babies (if we are so blessed) but I would not go through it again. It was 3X more difficult than recovering from a c-section. In retrospect, I wish I would have worked on just accepting my body, saggy skin and all.

Andie- Yes, I had a complete TT to repair the mucles and remove excess skin. I'm not sure if the PS used mesh I will call him today to find out. I'm very surprise to see that others have been in the same situation as myself.
I never thought that I would want to have more kids. I would always say 3 is enough (they keep me busy). My DH is all for it he says I should have never tied my tubes.

hey girls I am intrigued by this thread...I had two csections, gained a ridiculous amount of weight with each pg, lost 75 pounds, and have the most freakishly 'loose' skin(yeah my friends ask to look at it sometimes) in my abdominal area I have ever seen. I actually chose BETWEEN a TT and a TR when I realized I was going to be getting a large cash distribution last year, LOL. Glad to hear TR is still possible for you girls! Funny how our priorities change, Huh? Good Luck to all of you! Dancy
Dr. B didn't say anything about my muscle or the TT. I had inquired about it before hand with my plastic surgeon.
You and I have similar stories only I had two babies, one c-section and lost 70lbs. My poor skin didn't hold up well. I am concerned about weight gain with a future pregnancy, but I lost it once, I'll lose it again.
I keep standing in front of the mirror and pushing my tummy out as far as I can and wondering, "How far can skin really stretch?"

You girls aren't alone. I had a TT, too. I had my TR done 12/20/05 so this is our first month ttc. I'm a little nervous about my skin stretching out but I'm sure all will be fine. It's nice to know I'm not alone!! Kayla

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one with this question. I am hoping to have my TR in March and also had 2 c-sections and a complete abdominoplasty. I asked my plastic surgeon about mesh and he said absolutely not...why leave something in there that could possibly cause infection..so no mesh was used. I was concerned about all the scar tissue that could possibly be in my abdomen. I wouldn't want it to interfere with the TR surgery. Cathy R did Dr. B say anything to you about the muscles and getting pregnant again? I know my tummy won't be the same but with diet and excercise I guess we can try to get it semi in shape again? The reason I got my TT in the first place was I gained so much weight with my 3 pregnancies right in a row and then I lost about 90lbs and my skin was hanging. Now I am in better control of my diet and hope I would only gain the healthy amount of pregnancy weight.
I thought that I was the only one who spent a fortune on a tummy tuck then decided (6 years later) to have a TR. You never know what twists and turns life will take. I had a full abdominoplasty, muscle, skin and lipo. No mesh was used and my TR was a breeze. My TR scar is about 1 1/2 inches below my tummy tuck scar. My plastic surgeon said that there should be no problems accommodating a baby but my tummy tuck results will most likely be ruined. I fully realize that my abdomen is going to be a total wreck if we have another baby but somehow that is not as important to me as it once was.
We are not actively TTC but just letting life go on as it will. If we concieve it will be both terrifying and wonderful. And if we don't then that is ok too. I am at peace with my decision to have the TR and feel that my body is whole again.

If wire mesh was not used during your tummy tuck, then we would not anticipate problems performing the TR. Pregnancy is definitely not a problem following an abdominoplasty, although your outcome from the tummy tuck may not be quite what it was before the pregnancy!

Did you have a complete tummy tuck where they went in and fixed all of your muscles? Or did you just have a partial - remove a bit of excess skin and lipo the tummy? If you had a complete, I have been advised that pregnancy after is generally frowned on - the muscles have been sewn back together very tightly and pregnancy would put great strain on them. If you only had a partial and are OK knowing your skin will be pretty stretched out, then pregnancy is OK. I had a partial, had no trouble with my TR - Dr Berger used the same scar/incision. I am ok knowing my stomach will look AWFUL but it's a price i am willing to pay. Hope that helps - I'd also just ask the dr who did the tuck and your OBGYN for their thoughts as well.

I have 3 kids and after my 3rd child was born I got my tubes tied. Then a year later I got a TT and now I want to have another baby. Has anyone gone through this? If so were there any problems doing the TR?
