SharonVS.. Not a good excuse, but DH just came in last night (been at work out of town for 2 weeks). He's actually probably doing better than me!

Toots, I'm with you on that....I'm still trying here, too. I even switched to those Clove tasting cigarettes; which taste worse than anything I can imagine, and even though they're awful, I'm still puffing. I set a date for myself to just lay them down....last day of this month, I'm just going to walk away from them and see how strong I can be. I feel for my DH and rest of my family, but I know it's got to be done, and that's the only thing I can do...just lay them down and be done with them. I'm with you on how tough it is....I could do without food easier...

Well...still smoking. However, I have managed to cut my smoking in half (or more). That makes me feel better, BUT.... Hoping by smoking less that I will be able to step it down little by little until I'm not smoking at all. I know, I should just be strong and lay them down. It's my weakness. I can restrict myself from foods, drinks, etc. Smoking has been the tough one.

Iused to smoke 3 years ago. It was so very hard for me also but it is a mind over matter. How I stopped was because 311 was giving out free patches and sent them to me. I only used the patches for 2 days becuase I would forget to put the patch on . If you smoke with the patch on it makes yor heart beat and it feels as though you are going to have a heart attack. So since I would forget to put the patch on , what I would do was psych myself into thinking that I had the patch on everytime I wanted a cigarette and drink plenty of water, chew some gum or suck on a piece of candy. I gained some weight but it worked for me and I haven't smoke a cig. since. So good luck on trying to stop smoking and maybe tell your DH if he wants to smoke to go outside and smoke, wash his hands and mouth once he is done and maybe spay himself with some cologne or even change his shirt so you don't smell the smoke if you're not a strong person. When I went to work almost evryone smoked but I didn't bother to go around the area when they were smoking. Good Luck and much sucess SharonVS and all others trying to quit smoking.

When I checked on it, it was something like $120 for a 30-day supply, but definitely check with your insurance company first, because most times, it's covered at least partially...

Anyone know the cost "if" insurance does not cover? I think my insurance usually covers 80% of the costs. I just didn't know if they would cover it since it is related to smoking.

It's got to be tough being around smokers. I'm the only smoker here, so I have no excuse but to lay them down. If we all stick together and try and motivate each other; since we ALL understand how tough this is...maybe it will help each of us....

Tarebear38, I know exactly what you mean about trying to convince your DH to stop smoking also. My DH also smokes. My father smokes too, like a chimney I might add. It makes it so hard to be around someone for very long who smokes when you are trying not to.
My DH is great though. He works out of state for 2 weeks and then home for 2 weeks. He's willing to try to stop with me. We both know how bad it is. Stopping is just such a tough thing to do!

I used the Chantix to quit smoking in January! I only took it for 12 DAYS because it was keeping me up at night and that's all it took for me. Before the Chantix, I'd tried to quit many times, but I agree it is the hardest thing in the world to do. The med blocks the nicotine receptors in your brain, so when you smoke, you don't really get the "affect" of it, and for me, it started making cigarettes taste bad. It was frustrating for about a week and then I just finally got mad & threw them out, lol. I had quit for 4 months, and then we went through a horribly stressful time & DH was still smoking & I grabbed one of his...big mistake, so mad at myself! So now I have to get the Chantix again & going to try to convince DH to do it with me so there are no more smokers in this house. Good luck - try the Chantix - it really works! Tara

Hi ladies! I too just recently quit again. My TR is at the end of August and we want to start TTC as soon as we can. So this was really a "must quit" situation and that's really what I told myself. Also, as stupid as this sounds, I told myself I don't have to quit forever. The thought of never having one ever again was too much to deal with so I just convinced myself that I needed to quit for a few years. I know it's just mind games, but hey, anything to help it seem not so daunting.
In the past the patch has worked well for me but this time it just wasn't cutting it. I needed that oral fixation so I tried the nicotine gum and it really did help me this time.
I've been taking the prenatal vitamins for a few months now and am starting to cut down the caffiene. It's tough, but it's like a personal mission to get as healthy as possible.
