i had my TR 12/19 and I am feeling great. for the first two days or so i was uncomfortable but not to awful bad. the pain meds worked great and kept me uncomfortable. i did walk kinda humped over and i swelled to where i looked like i was 9 months preg. the swelling quickly went down just a few days of not being able to fit into my jeans quite right. i am at 6 days past surgery and we were able to bd on days 3 and 4. i was a little nervous about it but it was the right days. so the things we do to try for a baby. as long as dh is patient you should be just fine. i feel great. i am now just dealing with the itchy healing thats annoying. Good Luck. let me know if you have any more questions Lorrie

Abby, I agree. If I laid down for long periods of time, I seemed to get stiff. I found it better to move around too. Also, a nice warm shower felt GREAT and loosened up those stiff muscles. Amy H

I had never had an abdominal surgery and i breezed through the surgery. I had mine on 10/30 and when I left on 10/31 we drove home and went to DD party at school. I took a small nap and then took my children trick or treating that night. It is a little tender but I honestly feel the more you move around the less likely you are to stiffen up. Listen to your body and if you need to rest then do so. Good Luck the staff at CH is awesome.

Maudie, I have had four c-sections, an appendectomy and choleocystectomy (gallbladder removal) and the TR this past April. By far the TR was the easiest and quickest recovery. The pain and discomfort is mild compared to the c-section and you don't have the other post-partum issues with body and hormones like you do with a c-section. I think the ladies that seem to experience the most pain from the TR usually have not had abdominal surgeries before, so that in itself can be a shock - the pain in movement, especially going from sitting to standing. But if you have had a c-section you will do well. Good luck and congratulations on having the TR soon!

Hi Maudie, I haven't had a TR or a C-Section, but every patient I have had in the recovery room eagerly says, "This is nothing like a c-section!" Obviously this is great news! Hope this helps. Donna, RN

Thank you for all the information. I was curious as what to expect as well. My TR is scheduled for Dec.31st. and you have answered all my questions. Thanks, ladies!

I had a c-section and the recovery from the TR was similar but easier IMHO. If you take it slow and easy for the first days, you'll recover quickly. The best advice is not to do too much the first few days (even hours) after surgury. For the first hours after surgury I felt fine - up and walking around, went out to eat - but later than evening I was really sore.
After your TR,typically most women experience pain similar to AF cramps. Bleeding is uncommon, but possible depending on the type of TR procedure. The incision is smaller than that of a C-section, and you can start TTC as soon as its comfortable. Hope this helps !

Maudie, I have never had a C section, so I'm not sure if TR compares to the pain of it. However, it was a little different than I expected.
I did have to take my pain meds as prescribed to keep the pain down. From the time I woke up from the surgery I had some pain and it continued for several days or more. The meds helped, but it never completely went away.
I noticed some 'pulling' around the incision area. That's the best way I know to describe it. All in all, it was okay. Definitely take the meds and relax and take it easy. You will probably be moving around much slower than usual for a while and may be 'bent' over slightly as you walk. It will all gradually get better each day, for me, especially after day 3--it was my worst day of all.
I had no bleeding and my incision looks great. It's very faint and healed nicely. My TR was Oct. 3, 2008.
As far as TTC, I know the doctors recommend waiting until after cycle following TR. A lot of women do as recommended and some do not.
I know you are excited and anxious. It'll be great and you'll be so happy and ready to TTC! I wish you all the best.

There shouldn't be any bleeding from the TR and the pain is minimal. I was up later that evening having dinner with my BIL who lived in the area. I was sore, tender almost like a pulled muscle for a few days but as long as I took it easy and slow I was fine.
After your TR, we will send you home with some pain medication as well as recommending use of ibuprofen to minimize discomfort. You may begin TTC as soon as you feel ready and comfortable after your TR. Please let us know if we can assist you with scheduling!
