Hi Courtney, I have elected to not have the lap. I know what kind of tubal I had, and know the approximate lengths that are left barring surpises. I feel the same as you. Even if they told me that I only had 1 cm left on each side I would want to do it. Therefore, I am doing just the TR. I think it is ultimately a very personal decision. You have to do what you think is right. DH and I went through one cycle of IVF when we were told (erroneously) that a reversal was not possible for me. I had enough needles and tests then to last a long time. That was a factor in my choosing not to do the lap. Do what you feel is right. You are the only one that has to live with the outcome everyday after all is said and done.

Hi Courtney. We will be watching for your photos. However, the decision to elect or decline the laparoscopy will still be your choice. Let me know if you have additional questions.

For the ladies who had the lapro.... what type of TL did you have and what lengths did you end up with. I guess I'm reluctant to do the lapro despite the extensive damage to my tubes because I don't care if they are only 1.5 cm. I want to at least have a chance. I found out today my Dr took a photo of the coagulation after he finished the TL so I am going to send the Drs a copy to help decide.

We to paid the extra money for the laparoscopy..but it was something me and my hubby wanted to do..I didn't want to go through the actual TR and not be able to get my tubes repaired do to the length..it was money well spent!! We came out with 4.5 on each side..
Dr Berger and his staff is just great!!
Good luck to u..u will be in the best of hands at CH!!

BabyBoyer, In cases where the condition and amount of tube remaining is questionable, the screening laparoscopy package is advisable. The patients BMI needs to be less than 30. You will not need to undergo anesthesia and surgery twice if it is done just prior to the TR. A significant portion of the total surgery fee is refunded should they stop the procedure following the screening laparoscopy. Please call us if you have any further concerns. Martha

BabyBoyer--It would be well worth the extra money to have the laparoscopy if that is what Dr. Berger has recommended. He does not recommend this procedure routinely. In the unlikely event that he felt he could not repair your tubes after laparoscopy, you would save most of the costs of the TR and more importantly, avoid unnecessary surgery. Best wishes. Sally, RN

I had the laparoscopy done the same day as I had my TR. We trusted that Dr. B would make the right decision based on what he saw. I ended up with short tubes, but ones that were reconnected none the less. I had TR in April 08 and had one BFP that ended in early m/c. I am 40 and my tubes are 2 and 3 in length. I would say to have the lap done if Dr. B recommends it.

It must be hard to make a choice like that. I would be thinking "the docs trying to sell me something", if I hadn't already met him. I truly believe that if he's suggesting it, you should do it! It may cost you more in the beginning, but if he can't do the TR, you'll get money back. If he read the report and is not sure he can perform the TR, I would trust his judgment. I'd rather have a doc say that he's not sure than make you empty promises!! Jackie

if your goal is to have a tr, then you should do it. Dr.Berger is the best. if he feels that it is needed then go for it. what Dr. B can do with the worst of cases is amazing and worth every penny. if you continue to read these blogs and other info on the site you will see that many ladies were told it was impossible and some now have their tr babies thanks to God and the God blessed hands of Dr. B and Dr. M.

I sent my Operative Report to Dr. Berger which he reviewed. He is suggesting that I do a laparoscopy prior to the actual surgery to see if he can do the TR or not. I would love to hear from others who've had this done - it does cost extra.
