I agree with Anita. Get your thyroid under control and repeat the FSH and LH in a couple months. I don't have experience with this, but I am hoping for your sake that the levels will get better with a controlled condition. blessings to you.

Your thyroid can cause many different conditions to appear to "flare up" (for lack of a better term)or seem worse. The thyroid secretes hormones which can affect other hormones. Hypothyroidism is sometimes noticed when a woman becomes perimenopausal, but that can be 5-15 years before full menopause sets in.
I would think the best way to know where your fertility stands is to get treatment as soon as possible for the hypothyroidism. Once that is under control, any effect it had on your other hormones should be countered. Keep in mind also that your hormone levels can fluctuate from month to month. I agree with Jennifer...an RE would be most helpful.
I know there are a few other ladies on the boards who have thyroid issues. Hopefully they will see your post and respond. Don't give up. Good luck.

just1...I am amazed that your doctor thinks you are going through menopause at 34. I am sure it is not unheard of, but I am sure very uncommon. You really should get some fertility bloodwork done, don't just take his word for it. I had FSH, LH and estradiol done on CD 3 (3rd day of your cycle) to determine my ovarian reserve and hormone levels, as well as how close I was to menopause. I am 42 and they came back fine, especially for my age. Definitely stay on top of it - one thing you will learn from the ladies in here is that it is important to be involved in your own healthcare, and don't take one professional's "word for it" without considering other opinions and options. Good luck!

The FSH is a blood test that is drawn on cycle day 3. FSH is the pituitary hormone that stimulates follicle growth and egg maturation. In cases where the ovary is resistant to ovulation, FSH will increase. An increased level does not mean a woman cannot get pregnant, but that she has some degree of ovarian failure. Most labs consider 10 or less to be a normal range. Martha

Just1, I am sorry to hear that you are having hormone issues. This certainly does not mean it is not fixable. Have you been started on thyroid replacement? Have you had an FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) drawn? Are you menstruating regularly? I would suggest that you call the office at (919) 968-4656 and speak to one of our tubal reversal nurses, they are very knowledgeable in this area. Best wishes,
I am sorry to hear that things are so confusing right now. I would suggest that you talk with an RE about getting your hormones balanced out. I doubt you are the only one that has encountered these problems and there must be treatments. Was it an RE or your regular OB/GYN that suggested your levels wouldn't allow for IVF? I ask because my regular OB did not have the required special training to help with my issues (I have PCOS) but when I went to an RE it turned out to be a relatively easy fix. Wishing you the best of luck.
