My iron count is low also. I know how you feel. Do you drink alot of caffeine? Caffeine blocks the absorption of iron. Just something to think about.

I am glad to hear from you. Has your bc come up any? Do the dr.s have any idea/reason "why" you are not absorbing the iron? There just has to be an answer! Keep us posted on your progress.

Luv2BDagain, thank you for your post. I am going to have to reschedule my TR for January of 2010 so that I can my blood count up to normal. I have been eating iron rich foods and taking my iron supplements along with Vitamin C. At last test, my count was still low. I truly believe in my heart that come January I will be ready and that I will be in good health for the TR and a subsequent healthy pregnancy.
I have not been around lately, because I am so close to my original date and I am a bit bummed over the events that have caused me to have to reschedule. But I have picked myself up and will be on here again to support the other wonderful ladies and families going through this experience.

nycmom2be - Has your doctor checked your stool for blood? With your H&H being that low, there has to be a reason. Yes, it could be due to heavy AF, but it shouldn't stay that low all month. You could possibly have a ulcer somewhere in your digestive tract that is slowly leaking blood and keeping your levels low. It wouldn't neccesarily be bright red or obvious. Your stools would be black and tarry. Hopefully, you can get it figured out before your TR. Best of luck and prayers!

I've been away due to a hectic work week, but my doctor was sick and unable to see me last week. I am hoping he can see me this upcoming week so I can understand why my body is not absorbing iron. I am starting a new packet of iron and plan to attack this with a new fight.
Even if I have to reschedule my 8/31 appt, I am confident that I will be able to have this done before the year is out. Thanks for all of the support.

nycmom2be ~ I don't think a break up is a good idea. Have you discussed this with DF? You are going through a lot of stress right now, TR, airflight, bloodwork, etc. Try,(east to say), to relax. Stress just makes matters worse. Deep breathing, a leisure walk, yoga, a leisure swim, crochet, read a good book, watch a funny movie, eat nutritionally sound, definitely avoid sugars and high carbs(try to). Take care of yourself. Day by day. Moment by moment.
I pray the Lord to give the doctors some insight as to why you are not absorbing the iron. I have a friend who is RAW/living foodist and she too is having difficulty with iron, levels did boost but she is taking a lot to correct. Even low thyroid meds.
Looking forward to hearing doctor report/answers. Denise

nycmom2be, you need to find out what's causing your anemia. Even with a TR, with blood counts like that, you wouldn't be able to have a good pregnancy. There has to be an underlying cause and you need to take care of your health first. I hope it's something simple. And do vent, but I'm sure your DF wants you to be healthy.

Good luck at your doctors appt tomorrow, hopefully they will find out the problem and get your numbers up so you can have your TR. I am in NYC too and had my TR 4/16/09. Katrina

So I had my CBC test on Wednesday of last week and my results that I received today was that despite all the iron I have been taking (325mg), eating beef and other iron rich foods, my blood count has not increased at all.
Naturally I am devastated as my window for having my TR is shrinking. I have to get in my final results to CHTRC by the 3rd of August, so technically, I have one more month to do something. My physician has asked that I come in tomorrow to determine the problem.
I feel like breaking up with my fiance' because he wants and deserves a child and this maybe something I can't give him.
I just needed a quick vent as I am scared to purchase my air tickets because I might not be able to have the procedure. I am really sad today but hoping the doctor will have some sort of good news or alternative methods tomorrow.

Thank you very much. I moved my TR to August 30th to give me more time to increase my blood count. I re-test tomorrow morning. I hope that my count has risen a bit. I am now on 325mg of iron and have added red meat to my diet. Hoping that my count will rise and that I will be able to keep my new appointment.
