Please anyone driving please listen to CHRTC staff. The 12 hour drive there was cool. But on the way home my GOD my hubby told me i had turned into satan. I wanted to kill him I was sooo uncomfortable not to mention the bumps and stopping getting out to stretch my legs. it was horrible. All i kept remembering was the lovely nurse who came into my room to release me saying "Okay are you sure you dont want to stay an extra night"?the hubby wanted to, but i wanted to get back home to the kids.

make my reservation put in the computer
that I was having surgery and that I would
need access to first class lavatory. I booked

We are glad to write a note for flying that states you have had surgery and should be excused from an exit row, etc. Just let us know. [CHTRC]

We live in Louisiana so we took a flight as well. Non stop flight, we were there in 2 or so hours. The plane ride home was a breeze because you are so ready to get home in your own bed and be able to relax, that flying to me is the best option.

I've booked a non stop flight home,
I thought it would make it easier . My nonstop
will be around 2 hours. But that beats 830
miles in the car.

It is important to remember that the person having surgery will not be able to help with the driving for 24 hours following surgery and/or while taking narcotic pain medicines. It is also very important to get up and move around atleast every 2 hours to promote good circulation following surgery. Please keep all that in mind when making your decision. Good luck! [CHTRC]

At first we were going to drive but then I decided that it would be alot on DH to drive all the way up there and back within just a few days. I hate flying but DH will be with me so it shouldn't be to bad.

jnb, I have a terrible fear of flying. I flew from Seattle (4 flights to and from total), but I prayed about, I took something for the anxiety (CHTRC said it was ok) and I made it just fine. I was in shock how well I did and so was Dh. He thought I would be crying the whole way there and back; that's what I normally do but the meds helped. 16 hours is a long time in the car, I would fly and see if you can take something to calm your nerves. GL to you.

Personally, I would fly. 16 hours in the car can be pretty uncomfortable after abdominal surgery. I think most patients that live within 6-8 hours may drive, but more than that can be stressful. Where are you coming from?

Just curious if more patients fly or drive?
I'm flying but so scared to. But driving would
be 16 hours. Flying is only 2.
