I wanted to add something about eating dinner the night of the surgery. I passed gas prior to that evening. So, we were safer to go eat. I still stuck to something bland.
What did your belly look like? look bloated almost like at 3 month preggo ''
How many incisions and where were they? Bikini line and only 1 around 4 inch..healed so goo you can't see it '
Did you develop any edema [swelling] in your legs afterward? a little swelling not as much for me'
Did you nap afterward? yes.. How long? till about 3 pm and then wen't for a walk around the hotel.
What did you do about dinner? I'll tell you this '' I did not want soup ''lol '' My husband got me a double cheese burger plain with beacon''lol around 7:30 pm ..But they do give you a welcome gift box that had soup apple juice and things that you can eat'
What did you do about breakfast, post-op? the next morning after the nurse saw us we checked out and went to I HOP for breakfast'' I ate good ''
How long until regular clothes fit? around 2 weeks for me '' but I am also in the chubby side'
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 low, how much pain were you in the day of surgery? I would say with pain meds taken 3 but everyone tolorate it diffrently. I never even got an eppidural with any of my kids '' I have 3''
The next day? I was still on meds soo I was doing pretty good. And we left the hotel and after b-fast we drove back to Florida we got in at 12:30 am it was a long drive ''
And two days later'' Did not take any pain meds ''and was walking much better' on the 29th of this month it will be 1 months since T/R '
I had a little bit of bloating for a while after surgery. This is not uncommon because of gas used during surgery and sluggish bowels. If you take the prescribed pain meds, the problems with your bowels may last a while longer. Walking helps to get rid of the bloating and stimulate the bowels.
Like pps said, one incision at pubic line, and it has faded and is barely noticeable.
I had no swelling, but I believe this is because I moved around regularly and used only Tylenol and Advil for pain.
We went back to the room, and I had a nap for maybe an hour or two.
For dinner, we went to a restaurant in Durham called Bulloch's. We had gone there the night before, and it was so good we went again.
By breakfast post-op, if you mean the morning of surgery, I had nothing until I had passed gas, like the recommended. The next morning, we got on the road after being released, and stopped for b'fast along the way.
I wore looser clothes for a while....maybe a week. The problem wasn't really the surgery site, but the bloating.
The pain the day of surgery wasn't too bad. That's not uncommon because the surgical meds continue to provide some numbing. By the third day, the pain was due to moving and disturbing the surgical site, so it wasn't too bad unless I was changing positions, but that was temporary.
I am not a good patient either. As a matter of fact, when DR B came to see me after surgery, I was up and moving around, and he was surprised. As far as activity afterward goes, get up and move around frequently. The more you sit, the worse the pain will be when you do move, and you will probably have more swelling. Just don't get up to do chores that require a lot of moving, like vacuuming.
What did your belly look like? I am on the heavier side, so I just looked bigger than I normally do. I think the third day I looked like I was pregnant. I kept thinking of what to say if someone asked me when I was due. No one asked though.
How many incisions and where were they? Just one incision. Right above my pubic bone. Not as long as my c-section scars.
Did you develop any edema [swelling] in your legs afterward? YES! I am prone to swelling as it is. I didnt have a lot at first, but more in the few days after. I am the sure the plane ride helped with that a little.
Did you nap afterward? How long? I did nap. I came back to my room and the cleaning lady was getting in the room the same time I did. My DH went to get something, drinks or something?, and I fell asleep in the chair WHILE she was cleaning. I told her to not worry about me cause I just had surgery. I was afraid she might think I was drunk LOL. I talked to my kids on the phone and I distinctly remember feeling real tired like I couldnt hold my eyes open, but I was coherent. I would get up, walk around the hotel and then just be out like a light a little while later.
What did you do about dinner? We ate someplace that I could get something fairly bland. We played that part by ear because I wasnt sure how I would feel. I felt well enough to get out of the room.
What did you do about breakfast, post-op? Hmmm...I dont remember eating breakfast! lol
How long until regular clothes fit? They still dont fit all that well.
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 low, how much pain were you in the day of surgery? right after surgery I was very uncomfortable but CHTRC made me feel much better, just let them know how you feel! That entire day I was probably a 2.
The next day? I still may have been a 2. I got up that next morning raring to go.
And two days later? 2-3 This was when we flew home, I was still sore, but the pain meds helped.
By the end of my 3rd day I was feeling like I did way too much. Which I probably did. I dont like I sit much either, so I just got up and walked in spurts. I think I over did it by walking through the airport, we had a long way to walk between terminals and I was feeling good enough, but when the pain meds wore off...uh oh!
My TR was June 4th, I walked probably a total of 4 miles today (I am on vacation) and I felt a little sore this evening.
Just take it easy but gettig up and moving around helps you heal faster also, at least that has been my experience.

Hi Momof2n2, I'm sure other ladies will reply but from the post-op RN:) 1. Slightly swollen, 2.one incision 3-4 inches (bikini area) 3. Yes, especially when traveling the next day 4. Most do for several hours when getting back to the hotel 5. Light bland food (after you pass gas) 6. Regular breakfast. 7. One to two weeks for the swelling to be completely gone. The first couple of days are the worst. 8. Most women have no pain after surgery just groggy. It averages around 2 when the nurse visits the hotel the next day.

HI, I had my TR 3 years ago and it was a wonderful experience. My belly was a little swollen. I had a 3inch incision right above my pubic bone...very neat and healed well. Hardly any scarring. No swelling at all in the legs. Yes, I did nap after I went back to the hotel and we rented a movie. Fro dinner, had some jello and crackers. For breakfast, I was able to eat a bisquit from Mcd. I wore stretchy clothes for a week and then back to my jeans. My pain was a 2 the day of surgery. 4 the morning after. about a 2 for the next day or 2.
It was the easiest surgery I had and CHTR is wonderful !!! Best of wishes, Christie

I am looking for some very specific answers on what to expect post-operatively. They are pretty much all over the place, topic wise!

I am trying to develop a mental picture of what it will be like afterward. I don't sit still well, but I don't want to set myself up for a longer recovery because I did too much.
