Ok, so I drove yesterday for the first time. (7 days post op) I did ok. I did feel some twinges when applying the brakes but otherwise, it felt ok.

Oh the things we take for granted...until we can't have/do them. I am a side sleeper, but I was only comfy sleeping on my back with a pillow under my knees post op. I so cherish sleeping on my side with my best friend (my pillow) or on the other side with my DH.

Purplelisa, we recommend waiting approximately 5 days before driving yourself following surgery. You should not drive while taking prescription medication and should be comfortable in your response time in applying the brakes, etc. Some women are ready sooner than others.

Depends on you really! I was driving 3 days after surgery cause my sons had no other way to and from school! I was in pain but nothing huge that aleve or motrin didn't help!

Very good question purplelisa12! You should avoid driving while taking the prescribed narcotic pain reliever for post operative pain. Narcotic pain medications, like Vicodin which both Dr. Berger and Dr. Monteith commonly prescribe, decrease pain by blocking the pain signals to the brain. Thus, your reaction time can be delayed. Another thing to consider is the legal aspect. Driving while taking a narcotic is considered driving under the influence and may get you a ticket! Hope that helps answer your question!

I have only taken one vicodin so far. ( 1/2 the night after surgery, and 1/2 the next night.) Aren't we suppose to sleep on our sides, because I've been doing that also? I feel very good, and only take a couple motrin if I need anything. I didn't want to drive too soon, but its hard to wait to do everything until hubby comes home from work to drive me.

Pain meds and driving just don't mix. I stopped pain meds day 4 post op, however I didn't drive until 6 days post op. I still have a little soreness inside, but it isn't debilitating. I even rolled over on my side to sleep 2 nights ago! LOL
