I Just had my HSG done 4/14 and Dr said they normally don't prescribe antibiotics, but I stated Dr. B really recommends. SO he told me to just get what he recommends and let him know and he would be more than happy give me a script...which he did...I don't know what I would do if I had a difficult dr. Luckily he has been very understanding and realizes he can't know it all and Dr. B does what he does for a reason.

Have any of you with difficult Dr's maybe tried printing out Dr. B's protocol and physically giving it to your Dr? I dunno maybe that would help???

Both times I had an HSG my RE prescribed me antibiotics as a precaution. I don't understand why these Dr's are so bull-headed and won't just flip open their script pad and jot one down. It's for your own safety. I never did the betadine douche before my HSG's though. (never knew about it). I would be adament about the antibiotics though. It's your tubes that will be affected if you get an infection. Good luck and I hope to see wide open tubes for you.

Hey Kristie.. I had my HSG done before my TR. My RE had me do the exact same as Jozzy. My RE himself also performed it. I experienced no pain either. I did not do a douche.Good Luck though!

I recommend a prophylactic antibiotic as an extra precaution when having an HSG. Not all doctors think it is important. If you experience continuing discomfort and/or fever after the HSG, then your doctor will have to prescribe antibiotics as a treatment rather than for prophylaxis to prevent a possible infection. The risk of infection is low (but not zero) so I think it will be okay to proceed with your HSG as scheduled.

Dr B,
I asked my dr about prescribing the antibiotics and he said he doesnt prescribe antibiotics for the hsg. He said he doesnt think I'll need them. Is it safe to have it without the antibiotics?

Yes, they are the same thing. Betadine is just a brand name for the generic term, povidone iodine.
