Ive also read that there is a higher incident of twins in africa because they have a diet high in wild yams. It supposedly can cause you to Ovualte twice! So i'd imagine it helps you ovulate. Tara

There is actually a Mexican wild yam as well as the ones grown in Africa. I have not had any myself. I have thought about looking into them though. Thanks for the GNC info. I'll look there.

simplysandy this sounds like how I eat and I have never read the book. I can tell you when I went to more organic and no caffeine I feel a lot better. There is not a lot of difference between the two. I just do not do soy or the tofu. Some reason they do do go well with me. Miranda

I've decided to start the 'infertility diet' again. Since I started it last October, and conceived in less than two months...after 2 years of TTC. That pregnancy ended in an ectopic. I've bought loads of organic foods and nearly everything listed in the book. Like I mentioned before the author recommends Yams, walnuts, wheat germ, whole foods, Black soybeans, almonds, olive oil, pumpkin, kale, alfafa and cruciferous vegetables and Tofu. Most of the recipes look yummy. I'm gonna make the yam muffins tonight. As far as yams vs. Sweet potatoes, I don't know the difference. Can anyone tell me?

Wild yams, from what I understand, only grow in Africa! LOL! So, I believe you have to get a supplement for wild yam. However, I've read that some women simply eat a lot of regular yams. Fresh, produce yams (which are not the same as sweet potatoes..yams are actually really large) may work...

I think anytime one desires conception, a healthy diet is great. There are definitely supplements that help. It has been shown that Vitamin C, taking zinc for men, folic acid, primrose, and taking a super b complex supplement really prepares and aids the body in conception and retention of a healthy pregnancy.

Best of luck, and great idea to get healthy! Just make sure you discuss this with an educated naturopath before starting, since some herbs and supplements can actually hinder or alter your conception. Some OB's are open to natural medicine, but your best bet is going to see a wellness doc, or a licensed naturopath.

Where can you get wild yams? It is not the kind that are canned? Or are they the kinds that look like potatoes? Ya know the ones you have to peel right?

I have heard of “wild” yams.

“Women whose herbalists have suggested it as an aid to rebalancing hormones have used wild yam successfully. Hormonal imbalances are the culprits for menstrual cramps, PMS, heavy bleeding and other uncomfortable or painful symptoms. Wild yam can be used to regulate cycles and make them more predictable and regular and it is likely these attributes that help increase a woman's chances of fertility. It's thought that by taking it in the aforementioned small doses, it helps to ready the egg for fertilization”

I have also have heard of pineapple core as well….It is suppose to help with implantation.

I'm not sure how much of that stuff I believe. I'm not saying that certain foods or vitamins don't have qualities that are beneficial to you or dh, but I'm not sure that fertility is that strongly hinged on it.

Best of luck to all! [Smile]

I read that wild yams are good before ovulation but not afterwards.

The book says...'yams contain phytoestrogens...acting like clomid..,yams can apparently use the anti-estrogen effect to stimulate the ovaries to release the egg (in women who are not ovulating)
It also says yams should only be taken up to ovualation and not after....because it can make cm too sticky.

I haven't read this but I am suprised that yams is on there as they are a phyto estrogen, which could in turn act like a birth control acts. That is what my dr said anyway, along with soy products. He told me to stay away from them. Hope this info helps you. The other stuff though is all good for you I try to buy organic when I can. Especially eggs and meats where they tend to add hormones and antibiotics. We are lucky we raise our own beef. I have also cut down on the caffine, I actually quit it for about 4 months but have in the last few had some.
Baby dust to you
God Bless

I've just started reading this book and was wondering if anyone else has and what they think of it. It encourages eating kelp, wheat germ, garlic, organic fruits and veggies, using only olive and sesame seed oil, yams ..etc. and discourages eating meat, animal fat, caffiene, processed foods/MSG, white flour and so on. I'd like to hear from others who have heard of this or tried it with or without success. I'm gonna go on the diet next week. The book also includes recipes.
