Thank you both. That was exactly what I was looking for, the numbers for a good level. 1-2 & not higher than 3. Once I get my numbers that low & if TTC doesn't get a BFP after awhile, I'll know it's a different problem. But right now I feel hopeful. Laurel

Hi.I have Hypothyroid,I now have two TR baby girls ages 2 and 4 my TSH was .70 when I found out I was PG with my first and TSH 1.40 with second TR baby. They say its best to try and keep TSH levels at 1 or 2 when trying to get PG but aslong as you stay in the normal range you will be fine. Also have T3 and T4 checked to make sure they are also in normal range if they are you don't have to worry about them very oftern maybe once a year or longer.Good luck and best wishes. Sandy, according to my RE tsh should be under 3 when ttc. Mine is at 5.3 right now, so we are taking steps to correct. To get the most out of your medicine you should be sure and take it on an empty stomach, 2-3 hours before or after eating, and take it with a full glass of water. Also, do not take it at the same time as any other medication or supplements. I have been hypothyroid my entire life, and I didn't find this info out untill the last few years! Thyroid medication does deplete calcium absorption, so you should be sure and take a calcium supplement, again though, not at the same time of day that you take your synthroid. Good Luck! Love and Peace, Julia

Yes..I had my first TR baby 11/07. I'm sure it helped, being hypothyroid can mess with fertility if not under control. Your dr. will do blood work a time or two to make sure the dosage is the correct one (like every 6-8 wks). I always seem to feel my best when my tsh level is in the middle, but anywhere in the range you should be just fine. Other conditions can be a cause for infertility as well, in men and women. Diabetes is one..so I am hypothyroid and my husband is diabetic..so we BOTH need to watch our levels. Good luck with everything

Julia, Thanks for the response. How do you know if it is the right dose? I go for bloodwork in 2 weeks to see if this first dosage is right, but since there is a range of an acceptable tsh level, would a number toward the higher end help with fertility? Laurel
Also if I get a BFP, do I still take the thyroid medicine during the pregnancy? I told my Dr. about TTC.

Hi Sandysilver, I have been on thyroid medication since I was 4 years old (I am hypothyroid as well). I have two grown sons and have been pg several other times, most of the mc's had nothing at all to do with my thyroid problems, BUT, you do need to have your tsh levels checked and monitored to be sure you are on the right dose because it CAN affect fertility. Just be sure and follow up closely and regularly with an endocrinologist. Best of Luck to you! Julia
Has anyone gotten a sticky BFP while on thyroid medicine?
Did taking thyroid medicine clear up anyone's infertility issues?
I just started taking medicine for hypothyroid, after TTC for a year. A routine blood test found the problem. Most likely I had this condition for years and just never knew it. I hope I didn't do any permanent damage to my fertility. Thanks for any information. Laurel 10/26/07, age 40
