We put my TR on a low-interest credit card about 7 months prior to my surgery. In the meantime, interest rates went down and we refinanced our house mortgage to include the TR and credit cards that we had. Since you are buying a house, you can mortgage a certain amount more and the mortgage company will send you a check at closing. Ask your realtor...might be an option. Good Luck!!!!

My DH wouldnt opt for the credit card either, I tried to go that route. :)At first I was not for the TR, it seemed like a nice "thought", but life was too stressful at the time. Then once I decided I wanted this then I was pushing DH hard because I feel like my clock is ticking, even at 35, he is 43 (almost 44). Although we are not debt people either, he looked into a very low interest loan (to appease me), which he was approved for. His plan to was to have it paid off in a certain amount of months. However, we ended up not needing it. Everytime I got a chunk of money in I handed it to my DH rather than spend it. I swear I only searched for the lockbox key ONCE and never found it and only for $20. LOL! I gave it to him cause I will indeed spend it. And before we knew it then we had the cash in hand. I am scheduled for June 4th. It was strange how it worked out for us, but it did, and the story is long. It included getting laid off from my job, but somehow things worked out. It's good to see God take something devastating, like losing the job I loved, and making it into something good. Keep positive, and you will get there somehow, someway.
Another thought for us was to make a totally separate savings account just for the TR. If you know that you wont touch the money. Otherwise, the prepayment plan sounds like it would really work well for you. Keep putting in when you get some extra. I see a lot of posts where this worked for many families. And then it feels like you are truly contributing to your TR, where the savings account might be too tempting to take money out from.
Sorry, the story is long, I just wanted to share that it can happen even when you think it's going to be impossible with your current situation. Good luck, and keep us posted on your journey.

Maybe2be--It sounds like the pre-payment option would be just right for you. That way you would not have further debt right now with your other financial committments. You age is not really a factor at 36, although I know you would like it done soon. You'd be surprised how quickly the dollars add up if you are faithful in sending in money that you don't need for everyday expenses. Whatever you decide I wish you good luck. Sally,RN

maybe - Welcome to the board. Like you, we are not debt people, so we simply started sending in chunks of money as we had it to the pre-payment plan. It took about 8 months, but were finally able to get it all together and schedule. The low-interest rate credit card (Capital One might be one to check) might work in this case, and simply make larger payments until it's PIF.

1st of all welcome to the boards....2nd of all there was a message last week i believe that said not to use the finance option until further notice because CHTRC might not be accepting it anymore because of something to do with the new contract...so they said to hold off on applying until further notice....also from what people have said on the board the interest rate is a bit high...it might be better for u to try to get a credit card with a lower interest rate

Hi everyone..I have been hitting CHTRC website for the past year now and find myself reading the message board all the time! I am considering a TR, but thus far I have only sent my records in. I was wondering if anyone has opted for the financing option in regards to paying for the procedure and what the interest rate/terms is like (I know it can vary based on credit history, but just an average would be nice to know). We would love to pay in full and/or take advantage of the pre-payment plan, but do not feel we have the time or extra $ at this time. I just turned 36 (here's where timing is an issue) and we just purchased a house which took most of our reserves. We are not ones that like to go into debt for anything, but based on our current situation (age, $) was considering looking into the financing option but have not seen anyone talk about it?? Has anyone used this option?
