Sarah, we all get discouraged when we see someone "right out of the gate" at just a few weeks past TR, get their bfp. I know they are excited, but they don't realize their announcements actually worry or discourage others. The truth is, like Tanya said, that MOST women do not get their first bfp until later - usually 6 months. If no bfp after 6 months, then you can have an hsg, or if you are over 35, begin discussing issues with a gyn or RE. No need to rush things or get upset.

There are many variables to getting a bfp... age, health (including weight), success of the TR, husbands sperm, timing, etc. Its not just as easy as have sex and *boom* your pregnant, unfortunately... most of us wish it were... even those of us that got pregnant so easily before have problems now. I used to joke my ex and I just looked at each other the right way and I was pregnant! Now, only one bfp in 3 years of "perfect" timing, that ended in a loss. Hopefully it will happen sooner than later. Good luck!

Sarah - Your TR was two months ago, right? It's too early to be worried at all. The majority of women do not conceive that quickly. It shouldn't feel like it will never happen after two months - your setting yourself up too quickly to be disapointed.

On average - with no factors - it takes couples a minumum of 6 months to conceive; a maximum of closer to a year. That doesn't take into account being older, irregular ovulation, having a TR or anything else. It's true some ladies here do get a BFP the first month or two but it's not the norm. Most women ttc for several months to a year or more (like myself) and there was not anything wrong. It's just a matter of timing and it's completely out of your hands.

I wouldn't worry about an HSG until your 6/7 month of ttc at the earliest depending on your age. Remember your body is healing from surgury and nature can be precarious.

There is no good answer to why it happens for some and not others. Sort of like why young girls can get pg on accident when so many older established parents struggle to conceive or never have a baby of their own. Please do let this get you down so early into the game...because if you happen to need more time you could become completely demoralized by it. One bit of wisdom I would tell anyone planning for a TR is that this doesn't happen the way we plan it sometimes - ttc can take months, become a science project, you may have set-backs and get blind-sided by things you didn't count on. Don't compare your fertility in the past to now. Try not to let it consume you. Try to stay as postive as you can early on...and absolutely consider the fact that it may not be anything like you thought and the possibility does exist you may not end up with a baby, as sad as that makes you. Being realistic can help keep it in perspective, kwim? CH gives you an excellent chance to try again but getting that BFP is simply nature and that isn't anything you can control.

Good luck and keep your spirits up. It's too early to think it won't happen yet...

Hi Sarah,

I remember feeling exactly what you are feeling. I finally left the board for a while to try to cleanse my mind from the constant obsessing over TTC and possible outcomes and why "I" wasn't one of the ladies getting a BFP every month.

I had my TR in May, 2002 and got my first BFP in August, 2003 - 14 cycles after TR.

When we began TTC TR baby#2 we got a BFP after only 4 months, but it ended in early m/c. Then I went 23 months with no BFP. When I finally got the next one it was an e/p m/c. Then I went 9 more months and got my final BFP, which is my second TR son.

My OB told me that the brain is just as powerful as the ovaries with our TTC efforts - that sometimes wanting it SO MUCH actual hinders our ability to get what we want so desperately. For me, I believe he was right. It was when I finally attempted to distract myself with other things in my life and let go a little bit that I finally had success.

I truly hope you see your BFP soon!

Hugs,

Jo Ann

Sarah D,

Dr. Berger and Dr. Monteith advise patients to wait 6-12 months before having a HSG x-ray. It is best to give yourself a chance to get pregnant before rushing into having a HSG. Most patients become pregnany within a year of their tubal reversal surgery. By waiting to have to HSG you could avoid having a unnecessary test. Don't give up and continue to post your concerns on the message board. Best of luck!

Sarah D, Everybody's body is different, just like asking why do some people get cancer? In due time, let nature take it's course and stop stressing. That along will put your body on a serious hold. The key is to be patient and it will all work out for the best.

I had my TR done in Sept. of 2006, and didn't get +HPT till December 2008 - More than 2 years later! It was an Ectopic pregnancy. I have since been pregnant 3 more times- all within the past year and half...all 3 MC. The most recent was in November 2010. I was 38. I have always been fertile. I don't know how I went more than 2 years without conceiving.

I had my TR October 2010, and too have not gotten my BFP. While other sisters have shortly after....I know it is hard to be patient, but all in good time.

I too have found my self stressed. I bought the monitor and tested month after month, with no luck. But I have also watched as other TR sisters have not gotten their BFP's after years of praying, waiting, and hoping. I am just happy to have this chance, and I will never regret the choice I made no matter the outcome.

When the good lord is ready for us to get our BFP we'll be ready, but until then we just keep on trying and doing our best to not sweat the small stuff. [Smile]

Sarah D, I had my TR 4-22-10 and I gotmy first bfp 5-23-10 ended in m/c and another m/c in august... then nothing for months! I went for an hsg 6 months post-op and wide open, i did opks a cpl times and nothing registered.. with some testing i wasn't Oing at all, so i went on clomid in january and got a bfp, ended in m/c. i did clomid again, nothing. with 10 months of ttc and 15 cycles including m/c my dh and i gave up entirely and i enrolled in school, the whole nine yards... I just got a bfp early last wk! BTW- I just turned 24 in april and before TR I was VERY FERTILE! my boys are 15 months apart and my TL happened when my 2nd son was 3 months old.. I would recommend to wait at least till the 6 month mark, it's a long wait but medically best. It's not always an easy road and it can take some time for that bfp [Smile] keep your head up and good luck!

I had my TR March 8, 2011. I have read many stories of my fellow TR sisters becoming pregnant within a couple months of surgery or even sooner. I have been charting my temps, using OPK's to no avail. I know I am supposed to wait for a year before I have the test to see if my tubes are blocked, but I have thought about having it done. We have BD when we were supposed to and even more and no luck. I guess my question is why for some they have no problem becoming PG and others like me it seems like it will never happen. [Frown] I don't know if its because I am stressing so much over it or what but it makes me depressed every time I read about one of my sisters getting their BFP and thinking I will never get mine.
