Deb, don't worry, the beds at the Sheraton are totally comfortable and their pillows are quite comfy too! Have you set a date for surgery yet Deb? If so, when is it? Oh, OK, I understand, Like I said I wasn't trying to be difficult, I was just thinking that I would stay at the chain I work for. I appreciate you responding with all that helpful information, I completely understand. Can't wait to schedule. Thanks so much. Deb.
We do require all of our patients to stay at the Sheraton Hotel . Although I certainly understand your special situation, we often have similar requests and, if we allowed exceptions for one person, we would have to allow them for each person. Pretty soon, patients would be scattered all over Chapel Hill and Durham. After years of dealing with all of the area hotels, we made arrangements for our patients to stay at The Sheraton for about half the regular rate. It is close to the center, has room service and an elevator (since walking up 2 or 3 flights of stairs is a problem right after surgery). We also keep some equipment at The Sheraton in case we need to check on a patient after surgery. Our nurses then make rounds at that hotel on the morning after surgery.
I hope that you will find staying at The Sheraton a good experience. It may be a little more expensive, but after 10 years of working with other area hotels, I can assure you this is a much better situation than the others you mentioned!
All patients - even those from Durham - are required to stay in town at The Sheraton the night before surgery. This is very helpful should we need you to come in earlier than anticipated on the day of surgery. As Rachel mentioned, local patients may be able to return home after surgery, but you should have childcare arrangements made and a bag with you in case Dr. Berger feels you should stay near by.
Although it may not always seem that way, most of our policies are put in place based on years of experience performing outpatient surgery and are usually related in some way to patient safety.
In the case of a patient who lives very close by as you do, you are generally permitted to go home as long as the surgery went well, you are doing well, etc. Of course Dr. Berger makes the final call on this.

The discounted rate isn't as good as the $29 that I would pay for a room, I'd even be willing to come back to the clinic myself the next morning.

debjim, We do require all of our patients to stay at the Sheraton. They will give you a special rate if you tell them you are a patient of Dr. Berger's. A nurse will visit you you at the hotel the morning after your surgery. We look forward to meeting you soon.

I was wondering if it's mandatory to stay at the Sheraton hotel, or can we Stay at any hotel in the area?
The reason I ask this is that, I work for a major hotel chain and can get a room at a large reduced rate. I did check there are 2 hotels in Chapel Hill where my employee rate is accepted.
My husband and I plan to drive to the clinic, so transporation isn't a problem.
Here are the addresses, I don't know if they are near the clinic.
