The Ackland Art Museum is great and right in Chapel Hill on Franklin Street, and it's a manageable size to see in a morning or afternoon visit. If the weather is good you might want to visit the NC Botanical Gardens off of 15-501 or Duke Gardens. A lot of folks like to eat dinner at Mama Dip's in Carrboro or one of the barbecue restaurants such as Allen and Son for a unique NC experience.

Shynemol, If you like art there is a new art museum on Duke's campus-the Nasher Art Museum. I hear that it is fantastic. While there you could visit the Duke Gardens and tour the Duke campus.

The seafood restaurant is Squid's, which is quite good. A wonderful activity for a day is to drive out to Fearrington Village, which is about 15 from Chapel Hill. They have a great Market Cafe, an even better evening restaurant that is housed in a wonderful, historic home on the property (expensive, but worth it). There are beautiful gardens, great shops, an exceptional bookstore, afternoon tea, and several antique shops that you will pass along the way.
Sorry I missed the WA lunch...Glad to see you scheduled. You won't regret the decision you've made.
Having flown from Seattle, I had ice packs for the flight home and like you was upgraded. I also had a heating pad for the hotel when I would ice and then use the heating pad on my back it really helped!
My TR was on a Thursday and we stayed until Saturday - I thought we'd go to the beach but I just wasn't up to it. DH and I walked around downtown Chapel Hill and went to a shopping center a little ways away. Funny we ended up shopping at Nordstrom and REI if you can believe it! HAHA...
We ate at the fish place that is close to the hotel (can't remember the name of it although I am sure someone here will remember the name) the night before surgery - was a nice meal.
Anyway, stay in touch and I just wanted to say congrats on your decision! Trisha

Just booked surgery for my wife at Chapel Hill and saw that Shelly was handing out things to pack, but emailed them to the poster. Would like to make wife as comfortable as possible. Shelly, if you could email me that list, that would be great.
So far, I've seen. small pillow, grandma's panties, ice packs, loose fitting close (sweats), and slippers/mocassins. We already arranged for wheelchair on the way home. (Thanks Elaine and Bennie), and I managed to cash in miles for First Class so she should be able to stretch a little.
Also, we are coming in Saturday AM and are making a "weekend getaway" out of it. Were thinking coast, but bloody expensive. Any ideas on what we could do with a day and a half in N.C?
