Uhmmm... I had my TL like DR. B does the TR. It looked awful for awhile, but finally leveled out and was hardly noticable (it wasn't noticable to anyone else but me, unless I pointed it out to them). I had even injured it, tearing/pulling scar tissue right after having it done.

Fast forward... I had my TR 9/27/06. My scar is healing very nicely. It has actually surpassed my TL scar in cleanness, even though it's less than a year and the TL was in '94!

It really depends on your skin type and how you scar. I tend to scar ugly, or at least did in the past. It also depends on how well you take care of it. Most women heal where there is no way to see the scar (but of course, WE know where it is). There are those that will scar more, but where the incision site is, that won't be much of a problem because it can be covered.

If you wear REALLY REALLY low cut low rise jeans... there is a possibility that it may be seen, depending on how you scar. If you have it in the C-section area, it will possibly look like a natural crease. If you have it just below the hairline, you won't have to worry about it then, either.

If you wear bikinis, you may have to choose one that comes to the point where the incision site is, but trust me... it will be plenty low enough unless you plan on having a LOT OF WAXING! LOL

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I am laughing a little though because I am a non-smoking vegetarian, who teaches Bikram Yoga and my BMI is average for a 35 yr old woman. You never know how the body will heal. I exercise daily and drink probably 1 1/2 gallos of water a day. No soda, no fast food, no drugs, I barely even take Ibuprophen. I think you can never generalize any situation. I am just sharing my experience. Thanks again.

Dear Reba:

I am sorry that your incision/scar does not look very nice right now! I think you will find that you will eventually have a scar that is hardly noticeable. The capacity of a wound to heal depends in part on its depth, as well as on the overall health and nutritional status of an individual. Smoking and BMI can also affect wound healing. Much of the initial appearance does depend on skin elasticity and a woman's size. In most cases, however, the healing that will eventually occur will result in a thin, pale "line" that is barely visible.

I hope this helps.

Okay! I am sorry to say that I had my surgery on 8.31.06 and my scar is scary. It is not swollen but it is crooked and definetely not pretty. I refer to it as my frank-incision. I really thought it was going to be less obvious. I still wear my bikini and I also do not have a tremendous amount of pubic hair so it is much more apparent to me. I am not disappointed about it I know that each person is different. I would not change anything. I would still have surgery all over again. I think that I am an exception to this scar issue, but I wanted you to know that there is a possibility that you could have a different outcome.
By the way when you are a mother does a scar really matter? I don't think so.
Good luck!!!

My incision was made in the same location as 2 ugly c-section scars and one appendectomy scar...which Dr. Berger totally fixed...now I have one, very small and barely noticable scar [Smile] He's the greatest [Smile]

Dear Ladies,

Thank you for posting about your incisions. I'm certain it's reassuring to patients who are waiting to have their TR. Of course we nurses do see the incisions sometimes the day after surgery, if it is our turn to do "hotel visits," and they almost always look amazingly small and clean. We rarely see them after that, but consistently hear reports that the incisions are hard to find within a few months after surgery. Best wishes,

My incision looks awesome too. I had my TR on 10/17/06 and I took my stitches off Friday. I'm healing really nicely. I'm so excited that I had such a great experience with the whole incision. I'm on my way!!!

I just had my TR on Oct 9th and my scar looks awesome. Everyone is amazed. I now I have a lot more healing to go but I expect that just from the way it looks now, it will never be noticed in the future. It literally looks like someone drew a line with a light ink pen and I expect that it will lighten up and nearly disappear as any of my other scars have done.

I had my TR in 11/04 and I can't even see my scar anymore. My stretch marks are MUCH more noticable than the scar! Dr. Berger could be a talanted plastic surgeon, but I'm glad he chose another path! LOL!

Dear Sara:

Depending on your size, Dr. Berger will make a 3 - 4" incision just above your pubic bone. For many women, this means the scar is hidden within the pubic hair. Since we use a plastic surgery technique to close the skin, the scar will be barely visible within a few months following surgery.

Mine was done across my c-section cut, so for me it was more "bikini line". Although I should add - my bikini wearing days have been over since 1995!

HTH!
