For the reversal, your BMI must be less than 35. For the screening laparoscopy, your BMI would need to be less than 30.
So far this year, of the 550 women who have come for surgery, 25 women have elected to begin with a screening laparoscopy. Of those 25, there were 5 cases where the tubes were too short to repair. This means that Dr. Berger was able to repair the tubes in 99% of all of the women who came for surgery, and the screening laparoscopy option was an excellent choice for 25% of those who chose it since they received a partial refund when it was discovered that the tubes were too damaged to repair.
As you can see from this data, less than 2% of the women who came for surgery were not able to have the reversal. Although we want surgery to be possible for everyone, it is helpful and encouraging to see that 99% of women do have a successful reversal!
The screening laparoscopy option is a little like an insurance policy. You purchase it and hope you never need it, but it is certainly nice if you do need it. Statistically, of course, it is usually not needed.

Dear ANANICKY07, This is an option for all of our patients with a BMI of less than 30. We do have patients that chose to do this procedure. I hope that others will chime in and let you know their stories. The best thing to do is to do what you feel is in your best interest. Let me know if you have any questions.
