I had my TL after my 3rd son in 2000. 8 months later my husband died in a car wreck. I was 26. 3 years later I remarried a wonderfull man who had 2 children so he was ok with the fact i was unable to have more babies. I started doing research but felt it was a long shot with very little hope, so.....we adopted. long story short, the child was taken soon after we got him, but we got him back soon after. But with no guarentee that he would stay I started researching TR again. As I started getting things together I made an apt with my midwifes for the pre op test, they looked at me like I was CRAZY!!!!! They told me I only had a 20% or less chance of ever getting pregnant and to be happy with the 6 kids i already have, i left in tears but my hope was not beat just yet. I told them that if any doctor could make ths dream of mine come true it was Dr. Berger. 4 weeks later I was off to CH for my TR. This was March 07. Surgery was great and I ended up having 6.5 and 6.0, DR B told me to make sure I contacted him WHEN I got PG. He was very sure of his work [Smile] . I thought Yea ok we will see lol....
Well I Have to say I was shocked....6 weeks later I decided to Take an HPT just for kicks...I have very Iregular periods. It came up a faint BFP.....What already No WAY!!!!! I told my DH and he about passed out....So I contacted Chapel Hill (in tears) To see if this could reallly be true. I was told to get my bloodwork started.
9 months and 2 weeks after my TR I was blessed with my little Madelynn grace!

Brenda I have always heard that women are suppose to reach their sexual peak in their thirties, not lose their libido. [Smile]

Most Dr.'s are the same, but I guess you would expect more out of a woman.

Oh, and later I thought about what she said about my age being to blame for loss of libido, and I remembered that women in their early 20's reported the same thing, so how does she explain that?

Hello-
Today I went for my yearly exam. I went to a new person-she's a certified nurse-midwife/nurse practitioner. I wanted to go to a woman so I would feel more comfortable talking about my personal stuff. I wanted to see what her reaction would be, so I mentioned getting my TL and what it did to me. Just as I expected, she told me that it absolutely wasn't caused by the TL. I told her that I lost my libido immediately after the surgery, and she said it wasn't possible for it to happen that fast. She said that it was my age (36) and that it is very common for that to happen to women starting at about 35. How many of you have heard that? I told her that I was sure that it was the TL because it happened immediately after the surgery. I also mentioned that I had talked to other women who experienced the same thing and had it come back after TR. She didn't say much. After she did my exam, she talked to me some more, and suggested some kind of over-the-counter female libido booster. I told her I would look for it, but I don't believe that's what I need. I took that opportunity to mention this website and suggested she check it out and read some of the testimonials about PTLS. She was very nice and said she would take a look at it. So I feel like maybe I did a small part today in getting the word out. Maybe she will look at the information and change her mind. At least I tried. She was really very nice about it, not mean or condescending or anything.

Oh, but I asked her about checking my hormone levels to see if they were out of whack, and she wouldn't even consider it. She said if I was having regular periods, my hormones were fine.

Isn't it possible to have regular periods and still have a hormone imbalance? I thought so.

Anyway, that's my story.

My doctor was VERY supportive and actually ran additional tests to make sure that I was physically ready to conceive. In addition, he shared that his own sister had had a TR and has had two babies. He gave me the thumbs up on moving forward with my decision. He was awesome. So, I'm now scheduled for next week, the 24th!

I found the CHTRC website in February this year, and talked to my PCP about it in early March. I think the first thing he said is I may need to have my head examined..This was not mean-hearted, he just sees my whole family for everything, and knows my hands are already full! Anyway, I explained a little more about Dr. Berger, and He told me that if I was serious about this, that I should definitely find the "BEST". I believe I have.

I went to see an OB/GYN in late May, and even though his office was extremely busy, he took the time to listen to me, and asked a ton of questions, which I was able to answer, thanks to all the info on the CHTRC website. He doesn't seem to doubt that I can get pregnant, because he decided to do more labwork to get baselines -diabetic screening, because my largest baby was 9 lbs, 6 oz.

Overall, I have not had Docs who were ugly about this, thankfully! I hate it when docs are condescending!

Good afternoon to all. I moved just prior to having my TR so after surgery i found a great doctor not far from where i live. on my first visit he did all the routine stuff then asked about the TR. He said that he had opportunity to assist on a few TR's and that everything looked really good.when my pap came back it was pos. for cervical cancer.knowing that i wanted another child he was very careful in choosing the proper way to treat this.Because of this it took 2 years to finally get a neg.pap.He refused to even discus pregnancy until this was resolved. the day i went in to get the last test results he said it's negative now, how about that baby? He is more supportive about this than some family and friends. Some times I think he is just as excited about this as we are.

when I went to my first doctor he was very supportive and ordered all the blood work needed and wished me good luck. He left and I went to another doctor. She questioned why I went all the to NC to get it done, but she too was supportive and she eventually referred me to an OB/GYN since I hadn't gotten pregnant yet and my OB asked the same question. When I told her that Dr. B does nothing but TR's every day and how many he had already done she said "well, if your going to opt to have a TR that would be who you would want to do it". She has been supportive thus far and has just started me on clomid to try to help with TTC.

My OB (who did my TL with my c-section in 2001)was very supportive when I mentioned the idea a few years back. He gave me a couple of local doctors to look into, because they didn't do it at their practice. The #s I called only did IVF, not TR.
So, two years ago when I went back for my yearly, I talked to him about Dr. Berger. He knew of Dr B, and said he is very respected, and he was very happy to see that I had chosen a specialist like Dr. Berger who is always improving techniques.
We talked about the higher rate of EP, and agrees with the early PG screening. We will see how it goes if I get a BFP!!

I had my TL done during a C-section on 06/14/1999 and I thought that I was sure but little did I know that after I seperated in Jan of 2002 that I would end up a widow on 09/22/2002 at the age of 27. I had three children to raise all alone and then I met my husband who is just perfect! He is a father in every way to my children and has really helped us to heal and become a family. My husband has twins to a prior relationship when he was very young. I had gone to my OB GYN in October 2006 and tried to discuss having a TR and my doctor just tried every thing to talk me out of it. He really discouraged it and made me feel foolish for even thinking about it. Then I recieved a letter in the mail the following January telling me that he had retired and I was to pick another doctor. I went to my new doctor in February of 2008 and had alreay made my mind up about TR and when I discussed it with her she was totally onboard with everything. My OB/GYN's office performes reversals there too so they are familiar with the early monitoring that needs to be done. My new doctor talked to me for over an hour and was just super supportive. I really feel like this was ment to be now because if I would have stuck with my old doctor I probably wouldn't be getting my TR this July!! I guess his retirement was my blessing!

I went in yesterday for my yearly checkup (with a new doctor). The office manager had warned the Dr.about what I was about to do with the TR, about the ptls and that there might be that chance that I might get pg after and I would want him to follow the pg protocol.
Well, he had this blank look on his face when I mentioned ptls and asked me where I got my info. I told him I had been researching the internet and told him about Dr. Berger's research. After a few minutes of feeling very stupid, I just told him I was going to get the TR and that was all there was to it. I believe because I am 45, he treated my reversal as just plum crazy. I did come home in tears thinking I was crazy. And perhaps it is all in my head.
The office staff are on board with me. They told me that they would take care of me no matter what and that I do not have anything to worry about. All of them are women and understand completely what I am going through.
I have another consult with a group of doctors, (the doctor I saw practices independently) and it is a woman that I will be consulting with.
Perhaps ptls is just more intensive pms, but the doctors should respect our decisions. It will not happen until there is medical proof regarding ptls.

I have seen a nurse practitioner and an OB and both of them were very rude and acted very confused by my decision to have a TR. I am still looking for a Dr. that will be kind and respectful of me and my decisions.

my doctor doesn't believe in PTLS and told me I was just reading stuff off the internet and coming into his office with the symptoms I had read off the internet. I had come to him with symptoms before I even knew of PTLS and was very angry with him.

I am going back in this month for my exam and I am also getting my tubal records from him. I am just so nervous because he told me that he had done a REALLY good job and he doesn't know any doctor who does TL better than him. It just scared me nothing can be done.

I am definetely looking into a new doctor, hopefully some of the woman doctors around here will have a more open and sympathetic view for me instead of treating me like I'm making things up. I'm hoping something can be done to make me feel like my normal self again.

I am from WV and my OB has been sooo very supportive. She has been encouraging and really was the person who's opinion sealed the deal for me. She speaks very highly of Dr. Berger's facility.

My doctor laughed and said something like "see, I told you you would change your mind"~~but he wanted to know if I had researched doctors and was weary about me "jumping into online adverstisement without solid proof that such a person exists". He wasn't interested in losing business because he doesn't do reversals. So I explained everything and told him where I found the information. He was very supportive though. but how can he not be? He has pics of his kids all over the walls of the waiting room and his exam rooms. He has 8~~lol.
