Thanks so much for sharing your stories. I know that they will help other women as they begin their tubal reversal journey. I think that these will help them not give up on something that they want. Rhonda

My OB was somewhat supportive of me wanting a TR although she said maybe I would be better doing IVF because I wasn't having regular periods...well did ya think that maybe if I got a TR my cycles would be more regular. She like most doesn't really believe in the PTLS. Now I went to my internal medicine Dr and he was all cool and supportive of me getting a TR over IVF. I rather have failure every month than spending all that money to only be able to try one month!

I am 41 and my DH and I have been married for 17 years and have 3 DDs together, ages 11, 9 and 5. Although I didn't know about PTLS, I have been having increasing worsening symptoms since my TL. Because I regretted having the TL, and wanted another child, I started looking for information and found the CH website. I realized that there was a such thing as a TR and discovered that I had PTLS.
Given my age, I wasn't sure if it would be possible to have another child, but I decided that the TR would be worth it if I get relief from the PTLS. I checked the CHTRC website and also researched a couple of sites closer to my home town.
I decided to have a visit with my gyno to make sure that I was healthy enough for surgery or to have a baby and get his feedback about options. When he walked in the door, the first thing that he said was that if I only wanted one more baby, I should probably consider IVF.
I told him that I had read that the statistics were better with TR and told him about CHTRC. He had a couple of pts who used the facility closer to us, but had never heard of CHTRC.
My gyno asked if Dr.Berger made his stats available to me. I told him that they were available on the website! I think his response was a mixture of surprise and a bit of intrigue. He then told me that with TR, there was an increased chance of EP, and I explained that CHTRC had a pregnancy protocol on the website. My gyno was grinning ear to ear. My gyno then asked if the surgery was "micro-surgery" and what type of techniques were used. I explained that although I was clearly not an expert, it did say it was micro-surgery and I remembered the website explained what they did to minimize trauma and pain to the area. My gyno asked hard questions and the CHTRC website provided me with all the information I needed to have an informed discussion with my physician.
After our discussion, he was very, very adament that IF I wanted TR, then I should go to a place that ONLY DOES TR !!! He used the example that if he had cancer, he would go to a cancer specialist -- someone that only treated cancer. He felt so strongly about CHTRC, that he must have gone back to the subject and repeated himself at least 6 times during the visit. If you want TR, go to the place where they ONLY DO TR!!
Well, to make a long story longer, I am scheduled for June 19th. My hope is to correct the damage that I made to my body and get relief from the PTLS. If I am fortunate enough to have another child, that would really be a welcome blessing.

My medical doctor as well as my OB/GYN were both surprised and happy for me. They understand that this is not about just having a baby. It's about so much more than that for me.
My OB asked that I share my experience with her once I am post-op, so that they can possibly share my CH experience with other patients.
If my doctor was not supportive, I would have to find another doctor.

My OB/GYN was pretty annoying. She just kept asking "Are you sure? Are you sure you don't just want to adopt? Have you done some counseling to make sure you really want to do this?" I felt like saying - look lady, I'm not here for your blessing, I'm just trying to keep you in the loop. :-)
Oh well, DB and I are just thrilled that I'm scheduled now (with Dr M on 8/25, YAY!) and can't wait to start TTC when he gets back in the fall from his Army mission.

Hi everyone. My doctor was more than excited and felt that I was a good candidate for the surgery. He was very impressed with Dr. Berger's STATs and he has referred several patients to him.

Hi. I never talked to my ob directly about tr -although she tried to talk me out of the tl in the first place, said I was too young at 28- but I did talk to the nurse midwife at her office and she thought it was wonderful. Very encouraging & supportive. She even wanted dr. B's info because her neice was considering a TR too! The nurse asked for dr. B's info too, she, too, knew someone who wanted to do a tr. My dr. that I switched to is completely supportive of my decision to do tr and follows dr b's instructions to the T. I simply wouldn't put my life in the hands of any dr. who wasn't supportive!! There's too much at stake.

Both my primary care and OB/GYN were both very positive about the TR. Although my OB/GYN doesn't believe in PTLS. But that's fine He enjoyed delivering my TR baby!

My ob/gyn asked why I wanted to have TR, did i get remarried? Once i told him, no, i just wanted another baby, he shared with me that he and his wife had "been there and done that". They had two children, youngest about 5, and she wanted another. she got her TR locally and they had another girl. He was on board and told me pretty much the same thing as Dr. B's boards. He said, congratulations and call me when you got your positive. That was 2 months after the TR. He followed all protocol on the bloodwork. Unfortunately it was an ectopic and he removed my tube. One thing i did not like was he was ademate about removing the tube if it was ectopic. i am scheduled for an hsg once af finally come from the ectopic to make sure the other tube is open. and we will go from there. it was funny when he told me that he was going to remove my tube, I said, "do you know how much i had to pay for these tubes?"
My doctor was v negative too - i was bursting with information about CH and the success stories and he just peed on my bonfire with everything i said. Scheduled for 10 July and cant wait to go back to him with my BFP when it comes.....

I had the TR for PTLS and not to conceive but I am just astounded that no doctors are aware just how a TL can wreak havoc on our bodies. My OB/GYN (who I have been with and trusted for 22 years) never heard of any side effects of a TL. Prior to having the surgery.. the only side effect she told us about was the potential that the tubes could actually fuse back together (that is NOT a side effect..but a total surgical failure!) Even when I went back with symptoms like fatigue, zero libido, weird heavier periods, etc. she chalked it up to being a busy mom of 3 who also works full-time and a changing body as I age. She said it was normal to have no interest in sex!..As the symptoms piled up and I started to do research I made an appt with her for more tests and to ask for her support in getting a TR. I tried to get a referral for one but she said nobody she know of does them because they do not work. She said that MDs rely on IVFsicne the success rate is better (but since I was not trying to have another baby..that did not help me!) Basically what it came down to is that there is not enough awareness out there about PTLS or the TR procedure to restore both fertility and health! When I last saw my doctor she wanted to run tests that she felt the insurance carrier would expect her to run to be thorough, but I ran out of time since I had my TR scheduled for 6/2! I made some calls and sent e-mails to local MDs who say they do TR in their ads but not one ever got in touch with me (since I guess they were not as interested in TR as IVF)..I just stayed the course after reading all of the positive messages here and doing a little research on CHTRC. Today, I am hopeful that tomorrow will be better. I tell everyone I know... never to get a TL! I hope more women, their husbands, and, more importantly, their doctors can be educated on this topic.

I have not had a TR yet, I am wanting one so bad, anyway when I spoke with my OB/GYN about it he goes sure I can do that but no numbers or proof followed. In a few months I am going back to see what he says when I ask if he will follow up after Dr. B or Dr. M does it LOL. Although I have to say this about my OB/GYN he didn't want to clamp my tubes in the first place because I was only 19. He did because of the problems the NICU said my daughter was going to have and I told him I couldn't handle that and more babies. I have a great OB/GYN. I just thought it weird he was ready and willing to reverse my tubes and not give me any stats.
I really like hearing them because it gives me insight into what patients have to go through to have a tubal ligation reversal. I also like to know what the doctor's responses are to their patient's desires about reversal. I especially like the 'negative responses' followed by 'positive pregnancy test' stories.

When i was 22 i had my TL done when i went in the following year and said i had made the biggest mistake of my life and i wanted it reversed, he said that i was just being silly and that i knew this was a final decison. I found another OB and he was not familiar with it and asked my reasons. I said I would like to put it back in gods hands not my own.. He said he understood and anything he could do to let him know. I also went to my family doctor to do pre op work and to get a yearly physical. I was weighed measured and then he came in and said ok well we have to do a few more things... First of all I am sending you for a brain scan. I said a brain scan. He said Yes to make sure your not crazy for wanting another baby. I heard Dr. Berger works mircles... It made me laugh so hard. But was great to here that i made a great decision by going to CH..

My regular OB was not on board with the TR so I went out on my own and found Dr. Berger. I got pregnant the month after my TR but it turned out to be ectopic. I had a HSG to see if my tubes were open and my OB sat me up on the table after the procedure, gave me a hug and said, "I'm sorry, both tubes are blocked and IVF is your only option. I wish you would have listened to me from the beginning." I called Dr. Berger and he reviewed my films. He said they were inconclusive. I had a repeat HSG from an RE and both tubes spilled immediately. I then became pregnant again 2 months later which sadly ended in a m/c at 10 weeks. We tried for another 7 months and decided it wasn't meant to be. Well, low and behold, I became pregnant without OPK's or infertility medications/IUI's. I am currently due to deliver a little girl in 13 days. Dr. Berger is truely amazing. Throughout this entire journey and over 2 years later I still keep in touch with his nurses. They truely care! Please give TR a chance, it places conception back into the hands of God. Lori
