Hi there,

More ladies from the UK, its much more common than i ever thought. Friends are thinking i'm mad wanting a TR, but there are thousands of ladies who regret having a TL. Its not just a baby i'd like, i'd like relief from the horrible symptoms i have suffered from the last 8 years! [Eek!]

I'm from Northumberland (very rural) and i'll be flying from Heathrow via Detroit with Northwest. I have an office job, but still have to run about after my kids and DH! [Roll Eyes]

My best friend, who is coming with me will look after me, so i'm not worried about lack of support. Just the pain - i am such a wimp - Unfortunately the chemists now don't stock very strong pain relief cos of all the overdoses! [Mad]

Hi Cynthia. The lab results are good for 90 days from the date that the blood is drawn. Depending on how far out you are scheduling, you should be fine to have these tests prior to scheduling.

I haven't had my TR yet, but I'd suggest talking your concerns over with someone at CHTRC. They are the best ones to answer any questions or concerns you have. Explain your situation and I'm sure they'll do their best to help you out.

I have been told by my OB-GYN that I have the lowest threshold for pain she has ever seen in a patient in like 30 years of practicing..and I did fine. I would call it more discomfort than pain. I took the pain meds regularly and needed to extend them for a few extra days but I was in the car for 6 hours 3 days after TR and did fine. I recommend 2 full weeks off work, depending on what you do.. I only took on week off and, for me, sitting was really tough because of the angle of the body. By 10-12 days post TR things were pretty much normal again. Good luck.

Hi, Juliewoo:

At Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, the doctors and staff closely assess post-operative discomfort and collect information from each patient on the day following surgery. Based on a pain score of 0 - 10 (with zero meaning no pain and 10 the worst imaginable), tubal reversal patients at CHTRC report an average pain score of 2.3 on the day following surgery. This means that patients can usually move around comfortably and discomfort is controlled with the medications provided when you leave the facility. Although everyone recovers from surgery at a different rate, the majority of the women who have tubal reversal surgery performed here are able to return to work in 5 - 7 days and are back to the majority of their usual activities within 7 - 10 days.

We will look forward to meeting you!

Hi Juliewoo- welcome to the board! You will be given pain meds when you are discharged. As long as you follow the instructions and stay on time with taking the meds, you should do fine. We will look forward to meeting you.

Julie,

My surgery was fantastic. You will be tender in the lower abdomen once the pain med's wear off. I normally don't like taking pain medicine, it makes me feel strange. But my nurse convinced me to take the pills at least until I was at home. I did, and was thankful for it. Once I was at home, I only took them at night so that I could sleep comfortably.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...and was actually a better experience than when I had TL done.

Good luck to you!

Hello J,

This is just me, and I have a huge pain tolerance, but I went to my GP and discussed TR with her, and then went back a few days after TR to talk with her. At that point, I got more pain meds for night time, as my abdomen was quite bruised and swollen and bruised. I had a hard time sleeping from the swollen and bruised discomfort. It certainly wasn't terrible, and the day was fine.

I am very active during the day, and part of my problem was probably overdoing it. CHTRC does give you pain meds, and many women don't even use all of them!

You will do great, and I was 3 weeks post TR yesterday, and I can say I am completely back to normal! All swelling is gone, my weight is back to normal (was less than 2 weeks after TR) and we are having sex and I'm exercising and doing all tasks! Best wishes!

Blessings,

Andrea

Hi Julie

First of all congratulations on scheduling with Dr Berger.

I had my TR done by Dr Berger this July. I am English but I live in Australia now. I had to travel back to the UK after the op for a previously planned holiday. A couple of weeks later I flew back to Oz. The clinic make you stay longer at the hotel if you are travelling internationally - I was fine by the next day and so were the other two ladies that had their op the same day as me. We were all up around and shopping at the malls!!! :)

I had the op on the Thursday and by the time I returned to the UK on the weekend I was really fine. The flight wasn't a problem.

I know what you mean about the UK docs - but honestly I think it is better to have the BEST in the field do the TR. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

So don't worry about the pain - the clinic provide strong painkillers and I didn't even need them. I wouldn't call it pain - it was just a bit tender for a day or so, so I just took the ibuprofen to reduce any swelling. I really don't think you will need anything from your own GP.

Won't be long till September. It will be great.

Julie I wish you all the best. It is nice to meet you. My name is Miranda and I had my TR on 3/24/08. The pain was not that bad. When you wake up from surgery if you think you need something more just say so and they will see to it before you leave. The stuff they give you in surgery hangs around for awhile. Then they give you your pills before you leave. I hope with everything going on you will not have any troubles taking them. You will be in great hands at CHTRC and if you are worried about anything just talk to them about it. They are more than happy to help you. Miranda

Hi All,

and thanks for replies. A little aprehensive about it as it gets nearer. Wondering what Dr Berger will find and hoping that my last surgeon didn't ensure I wouldn't ever be able to have children again! Although that's not the only reason I'm having TR. I never imagined the regret or that I would experience side effects from this (PTLS) - the surgeons in England don't beleive in it and deny it exhists. [Mad]

I'm not good at taking medication, that's half my worry. I'm managing chewable vits with folic acid at present and I take soluble ibuprofen (which I will have to stop soon) for headaches. [Frown]
