Hi Kim,

I know with my HSA plan expenses are covered 100% after you meet the deductible with qualified medical expenses. For most insurances, a TR would not be a qualified medical expense to go towards the deductible. You can however, use the medical savings account money for the TR without a tax penalty.

I was thinking about using my HSA money for my tubal reversal but only after I have banked enough to cover my full deductible. That way if anything else happens medically and I need to cover my deductible I won't have to come up with that out of pocket.

I do think it makes sense to put money saved for TR into a medical savings account because you can put this away pre-tax.

I just wanted to point out that my percentages that I would be paying after I hit 1500.00 is the same percentages that I would be paying if I decided to go with PPO.

Karen thats why I am asking : 0 I want to know before I decide to get it. Thanks for sharing the info. My daughter takes medication for adhd so I need to take that into consideration. But once we pay 1500.00 out of our pocket our ins. would pay 35% on medication. So this is what I am wondering. Do I take HSA for one year and use it to help pay TR. I can always go back to ppo the following year.

if you or anyone in your family has medications they take on a regular basis, it also makes it very difficult. My son is on Advair and it costs nearly 200 dollars for a months supply, this insurance doesn't cover it. His employer puts $200 in the HCSA a month, so what they put in I spend on ONE prescription each month....

I apologize if I am being a downer, I just want you to fully understand before you choose this option.

Well my husband and I have a healthcare savings account and I have to be perfectly honest, I think they suck. I think its the worst insurance you could ever have, maybe there are different kinds but basically we pay I think 90 dollars a month for like 20% coverage. The healthcare savings account is there to help you pay your doctor bills because your insurance DOES NOT cover crap. Our annual deductible is $4500 and his employer puts in $2000 in... SO basically until you reach that deductible your really getting billed for and have to pay your own doctor bills, perscriptions etc. Once the 4500 dollar deductible is paid, we are covered 100%. And to reach $4500 is not that easy, the only reason we reached it this year was because I am pregnant and had many many appointments and tests, and even than we just reached in in October.
Anyways, my advice would be NOT to go for this coverage but that is my personal opinion... maybe it will work for you. Unfortunately we don't have a choice and this is our only form or insurance offered.

Medication and any medical expense that we pay out of the HSA goes towards our out of pocket expense.

Once we pat 1500.00 out of pocket the plan works like this:

I would pay
Office visit: 35%
ER: 10%
In patient hosp: 10%
lab & xray: 10%
mental health: 35%
PT: 35%
Chiropractic: 35%
Message therapy: 35%
Rx: 35%

After we meet the entire out of pocket of 3500.00 the plan pays 100%.

KIM,
What happens if you get sick? Do you still have coverage for that, I was just wondering bevcause you stated that you'd have to drop your insurance.

Thank you I am very excited about this and can't wait to share with DH. He is on the road and will be home tonight. I have been feeling down with all of the financial burdens we have had lately, thinking that this would be a long process. My brakes went on my car 2 days ago and my brother fixed them for me yesterday for my bday - thank you lil brother. Transmission went last weekend on our van so that is the next item to tackle. I just have to keep a positive mind and all will be well. I think this was a sign from above that we can do this and it was meant to be.

Kim--you are fortunate to have this benefit. Make sure that once you have enough money in your account, allow 3-4 weeks to schedule with Dr. Berger or Dr. Monteith. The schedule fills up fast. Best wishes.

The employer contributes 1500.00 on Jan. 1st and we get a debit/credit card for the account. We use the account as needed, don't have to pay and wait to get reimbursed. I can contribute up to 4500.00 myself in a year. I am thinking that this we be the best way to go.

Kim, I'm not sure that I fully understand. You will be required to pay the full amount to CHTRC and then get reimbursed. Are you stating that you can open the HSA, pay $3,500 into the account, your employer adds $1500 and then also pays the difference of the cost of the procedure? Please email me at ErickaP@tubal-reversal.net

My employer is changing insurance companies and we have the option of going to an HSA instead. Employer contributes 1500.00 into the account. I am considering this since we plan on having TR next July. Does anyone have any experience with HSA? Also after you pay out of pocket 3500.00 the employer picks up the rest 100%. If we decided to go this route DH would have to drop his ins. on me but could keep it on himself. I am not sure if I should go with PPO Aetena, total out of pocket for that before employer picks up 100% is 4650.00. Can anyone give me some advice.

Thanks,

Kim
