Sunrise8677--You husband will wait in the 1st floor reception waiting room during your surgery or he may wait in the outside courtyard if the weather is nice. He should plan on being there approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes but this varies from one surgery to another. We are looking forward to seeing you on January 13. Sally,RN

I wish I had a date scheduled already. found round-trip tickets with southwest on some special deal but ends 1/19/09. The cost was $440.90 for round trip for 2 people/direct flight. I was really amazed. I sent Julia/RN an email and she said around my time they book up about six weeks out so if I pay 4/3/09 than surgery would be about mid 5/09
If I remember correctly, we paid in full in the beginning of May, and the earliest date available was 7/30. I don't know when their busiest time of the year is, but I believe our date was a couple of months off.
It was OK with me, because we needed time to find the best airline rates (and they were very high at the time due to the prime summer travel and skyrocketing fuel prices) and to get everything ready....

Anyone here do the pre-payment plan? I plan on having paid off by 4/09 so I dont know how soon I will get to schedule it after that. I was told that in 4/09 & 5/09 it picks up and that they usually get six weeks out. I cant wait to have TR in 4/09 or 5/09 its all I can think about lately.

i had my TR on 12/19. same beginning as everyone else. they gave me versad which is a wonderful drug lol! last thing i remember i think is telling them about my kids. i woke up had to use the restroom immediately and there was my hubby. i did not have any probs from the breathing tube. i will tell you though. take some gas-x with you because the next day you will be uncomfortable because the pain meds make things sluggish for a few days. i also had to use a laxative. i know tmi. oh and bring granny panties to go up over your incision to help prevent rubbing. surgery was not a big deal and the suture knots were honestly forgotten. i was happy to be able to take a tub bath again though. i am not sure about the age gap cause we just started TTC and it was only four years. i am at two weeks post op and back to myself completely. best wishes and good luck! hi ptlsmama, Had my TR on 12/4/08, and i too were a little nervous and scared because of putting under and i have only had two kids, both naturally and no c-sections to deal with. First, i had a very positive experience. When i arrived they took me in the back and gave me a couple of pills at first in which one of them was to calm the nerves. Then, the nice nurse started my IV. My nurse was very gentle and she did good work getting the IV started with me feeling only very little pain at all. After that, they took me into a waiting room to get ready for surgery. After about 20 minutes they took me in for surgery. I was on the table and the nurse said they were going to put something in my IV, and then i felt her rub alcohol on my face, when all i knew while looking at the light on the ceiling, and i was out just like that. I didn't even have a dream. One minute i was looking at the light on the ceiling, and then the next minute i was rubbing my face, with a dry mouth, looking at my husband in recovery. It is very quick. I have a 10 year old and a 4 year old. Hopefully, baby #3 will be on the way real soon.

Oh man I forgot that I had a breathing tube...LOL Really I forgot about readingthat I would have a feeding tube.... When I had the surgery I never felt ANY side effects or scrathiness after the tube was taken out....WEIRD! All I remember was feeling really relaxed. They laid me on the surgery table and that was the last I remember. Whne the woke me up, I was well rested and ready to eat...LOL
As a matter of fact, waiting to eat was the HARDEST part of my recovery...
NO, the hardest part of my recovery was my "responsible adult". SHe kept making me laugh....I thought I would blow my stitches. I didn't of course...but that was honestly the hardest part!

I think the age gap is a Blessing! You'll have hardly any work...LOL
As far as the surgery....I have MANY anxieties when it came to being sedated/put uder....ALL my anxieties melted away when I met Dr. B and the staff! The love that fills that office is Heavenly! No kidding....

Hi ptlsmama, The suture used during surgery will slowly be absorbed by your body. You do have to cut the small knots that are at both ends of the incision. Some ladies find it helpful to clean nail clippers and just snip the knots when 10 days are up. It is normal to be nervous concerning anesthesia. Medicine is placed in your IV and you gently fall asleep. The breathing tube is placed only after you are asleep. It is a peaceful sleep and you won't remember it. Hope that helps. Lori RN

I just had my TR 12/26/08 and I feel fine. I had 3 c-sections (ages 16, 12, and 11) and this is nothing compared to a c-section...I was walking straight, not humped over, Friday afternoon (my TR surgery was that morning). I went back to work yesterday (I have a desk job in ATL). I'll still take the prescribed pain pills at night (to help me sleep), but during the day, I'll take 2 Ibuprofen and that's all. My stomach is healing without any problems and I'm back to my normal activities. The only thing that I had a minor complaint about was my throat was a little sore from the breathing tube they place at the back of your throat...standard procedure. Believe me, you won't remember anything or feel any pain during the procedure. The suture knots are barely visible...the only time I remember they're there is when I'm taking a shower. You'll be fine, EVERYONE at Chapel Hill was AWESOME. Good Luck.

I am a big pain wimp and don't even like to take meds when I get a headache. You will be in good hands. Do not worry. Everything goes so smoothly and before you know it..you are waking up and it is over. I had 3 C-Sections and this was much easier in terms of pain and recovery. Suture knots were nothing.
I had my TR for PTLS only and have 3 kids (9, almost 6 and almost 4) so I cannot comment on the age gap question.
