PINE,

I wouldn't let this blog stop you from talking to your doctor and researching IVF. The risks and chances are different for everyone. Just as IVF doesn't work for everyone neither does a TR. Also, FYI, almost everyone that I know that did not succeed with a TR went on to get pregnant with IVF. Some of these women are in their mid to late 30s, some in their early 40s and it worked for them. I think like the TR you have to evaluate and do what is right for you. Wishing you the best of luck!

In my case, neither has resulted in a take home baby. I got pregnant 3 times after my TR in 13 months only to miscarry before 6 weeks each time.
Had testing done out the wazooo only to find I have a blood clotting disorder so I worked on fixing that. I did 2 injectable cycles---no BFP's.
I had HSG--tubes open, just short.
Signed up for shared risk IVF---did 3 fresh cycles--all BFN and 1 frozen embryo transfer which I am in the process of miscarrying now.

Sometimes, no matter what we do or how much we spend or how we go about TTC--it just doesn't happen.

I am glad I had the TR, I can still TTC on my own for 1 set price. I am also glad that I tried IVF so there are no 'what if's' with me.
I know in my heart that I have tried everything available to me to try to have a baby. Once my journey is over, I will be at peace.

I wish you all much luck!

I think it is important for us all to remain realistic. IVF is not the answer for everyone. TR is not the answer for everyone. There is always a chance that some of us will never get pregnant again, no matter how hard we try or how much money we spend. We all have to do what we think is right and hope for success. Success is not guaranteed for anyone at any time. Being positive and realistic benifits us all. I think the question about what do I do now is a very important one. I think we all have thought about the what if I never have another baby. What will I do? You might want to think about adoption. Maybe foster parenting. Best of luck.

pine,
in your case, you did try the tr. it was not the answer for you. your moving on make you no less. if the ivf works and you get a baby, all the better. the point and goal is to get a baby by whatever means you have to go. you tried tr, that was not the remedy. so you have to move on. tr worked for me, but i would never knock it for anyone else who it does not work for. because if it hadn't, i would have moved on just and sure and not felt bad at all about it. we have a couple of ladies on our jan 08 thread that have moved on because unlike a lot of us on that thread, the tr was not a success for them. we are just as happy for them and they are expecting twins and triplets, so whatever gets the job done, i say.

I agree a TR should be tried first but ladies if your tubes block or you just dont become pg then what?? Do you just give up? Does the need for another child just go away? Well for me it hasnt and I refuse to put a price tag on this I aready spent 7,000 with traveling expenses for my tr and that didnt work. Why not another 15,000 a try is a try. I was 32 in great health when I got my tr my tubes were both 4.5 and it didnt work!!!!

I agree with ismagirl.
We also did one cycle of IVF. However our cost was out of pocket [Frown] We spent about 15K. We had 26 eggs. We decided to donate 8 eggs with the idea that we would never need that many. We were left with 6 fertilized embryos. They implanted the two that they felt were the best (grade A). We got pregnant and were so happy! Then at the 6 wk u/s discovered that one had quit forming and had collapsed and the other was a blighted ovum so even though there was a gestational sac there was actually no baby. We were crushed. Here we thought we were sucessful, and in reality we were not. IVF was so hard on me emotionally that we opted to donate the other 4 fertilized embryos to another couple (three years after the cycle) because I could not bare to try again. Trying again meant more hormones, 5K, and maybe the same result as the first go around. I just couldn't do it. I was told at the time that reversal was not an option for me. Now that I know differently I am scheduled for 3/16/09. This way we will get to try until I just simply get too old!! lol! A new chance every month....for free......with no doctors needed until we get BFP. White lab coats are just not that romantic I have found! [Smile]

I had my tr 3-19-07 and have not had one BFP. I am moving onto IVF because a tr did not work for me and I think it is sad that I came here today hoping for support only to find this!! News Flash the tr doesnt work for everyone!!!!! I truly believed that my tr would result in a baby but it didnt and its nobody's fault but that only leaves me with IVF and now thanks to this thread I dont even know if I should try that....

Just a bit about my ivf
I am 35, 34 at time of ivf. i did ivf beacuse insurance paid for most of it. however we still came out of pocket about $3000 + the ivf is a chance game. if the re don't get the meds right on then you have to keep going until they do. my first round of ivf i only had one egg we fertilized it but it did not form. second round we produced 10 and only ended up with 3. implanted the three and had mc. ivf in my opinion gives ladies a false hope of becoming pregnant. women believe that just because they know they have fertilized eggs implanted that they are pregnant this was not the case for me i had three implanted and i had mc. ivf does work for some ladies and that is great however i like my odds better with tr. i paid a one time fee and now have unlimited chances to get pregnant.
i personally recommend that if ladies have the ability to get pregnant naturally then they should definetly go with tr and only use ivf as a last resort.
