I am 41, and due less than one month before my 42nd birthday. I had my TR back in 2002. I had my first TR baby in 2004. We began trying for TR baby #2 in Jan/2006. I had an early m/c in May/2006. Then almost 2 years before another m/c, but this time in the tube. They removed my right tube after it wouldn't go down for a couple months. My LP was averaging only 10 days every cycle, so I had my CD3 bloodwork done. It came back perfectly. Nine months after the second m/c I got another sticky bean at age 41. I am now 21w1d along with my second TR son. So far the pregnancy has been exactly like those with my older 3 kiddos.
I would recommend having your CD3 bloodwork done to be sure. But if you are still having very regular cycles that is a great sign. Best of luck!!

The only way of knowing for sure if the tubes are blocked is to have an HSG.....which is a procedure where a specialist injects a dye through the vagina, into the uterus, then to see if it pours out the ends of the tubes. If there is flow then the tubes are open, if not, then they are blocked. The procedure is monitored on a machine similar to u/s. This is something that you will have to discuss with your own doctor who will either perform it or send you to someone who will. Chapel Hill's protocal is to wait 6mo after TR.

At what point can you tell if scar tissue is a factor after the reversal? Do you follow up with the reversal clinic or go to a fertility specalist in your area?

How long does it usually take for scar tissue to form in the tubes. Is it at all related to your age or anything like that? I am going in on Wednesday and don't want to end up with blocked tubes and get the severe PTLS back. I am only 29 and am a size 8 and very healthy, except for the PTLS, exhaustion.

I am proof the 'older moms' still have it. My TR was 04/04. I gave birth to my beautiful little girl 11/18/09 at the age of 46. This was my 3rd PG post TR. Unfortunately the first 2 were miscarriages. Third PG was the charm that happened a few months before my 46th. My daughter is gorgeous, healthy, spoiled rotten, and I just love her to death. The PG was as easy as the ones I enjoyed at much younger ages.

And I did suffer from scar tissue on the tubes after the reversal. Mine were completely blocked. An RE in my area removed the scarring. Supposedly the rate of blockage is 5%.

Take care,
Linda and Paizley...she'll be 6mos May 18....WOW how time flies!

Does anyone know how you go about checking to see if the surgery has been successful after the procedure. I'm just curious to know if the tubes can close again or can be blocked with scar tissue. I'm schedule for the 15th of next month and remaining hopeful

Hi ladies. I am 42, will be 43 in July. I had my TR at Chapel Hill last year in April 08 when I was still 41. I have not had a BFP yet, but have a health issue I am working out - insulin resistance - that has affected my fertility. I have know a couple of other ladies in their early 40's and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy. The important thing is to realize that no matter how young we feel we are over 40 and our fertility is certainly affected by our age. I am sure many of you were like me - I got pregnant just looking at my husband years ago - I was a total "fertile myrtle" but this is no more! I just KNEW I would be pregnant right away after TR, but it hasn't happened yet. But I am trying not to give up hope.

The most important thing is to be prepared before going into a TR so you can be realistic about your chances. JoAnna showed you a link to their pregnancy rates, which you can see a decline as the age increases. The ONLY and BEST way to know what your chances are is to have testing done prior to TR and be sure to be hooked up with a good GYN and maybe even an RE that will follow Dr. Berger's protocol for early pregnancy. Also, if you are not successful with a BFP in the first 4-6 months, consult your RE for options. It is common for us "more mature" moms to need medicinal assistance, which there are plenty of options out there.

As far as testing, be sure to have your FSH, LH and estradiol done on CD 3 - the third day of your cycle (with CD 1 being the first day of your period). This will give you the most accurate results and give you an indication of ovarian reserve and estrogen level - whether it is pre-menopausal or not. Good results along with regular cycles and if you are healthy (not overweight, diabetic, etc) your chances are good at getting pregnant. IF you have good insurance and/or want to know more about your fertility, Inhibin B and AMH are even better markers for ovarian quality and quantity - but are more costly tests. Finally, if you are overweight, diabetic or have thyroid issues, be sure to get treated for those first before trying as they will affect your fertility also. There are meds that can help you improve your fertility even with these issues.

They will treat you very well at CHTRC....Good luck!

Hi Guys, I am new at this, I am 42 and yesterday spent hours viewing this site, i never thought i would be considering wanting to have another child, after my first marriage i thought it was all over, but then i got married again to a wonderful guy, he has 2 daughters from his first marriage who lives with his ex-wife, we both decided we did not want more kids when we first got married, but all of a sudden that changed, now he has been talking about me having another child, because i love him and we have been married going on 5 years i think i owe it to him to pursue this. It is so nice to read all of your comments, it gives me hope that it is possible. I do have to save up the money but it will happen. My tubes were cut and burn, but i saw a 46 year old who had the same procedure and got pregnant so that made me feel better. Any comments would be helpful.

Hi Ladies, I'm 41 almost 42 and had my TR on 2/13/09 and I also did 2 1/2 rounds of IVF with no success. My new DH and I should of done this earlier instead of IVF and not wasted time. It is the best decision we made. I highly suggest TR with Chapel Hill. Dr. Berger and his staff are the best.

Hello ladies, I am 42 soon to be 43 on May 22. I am having my TR on May 18th. If you want another baby, I say, get your body back to normal and leave it in Gods hands to start. Have faith and don't hesitate. Good luck on your decision.
