I cant imagine putting it any better than Denise!! The only thing I would add is bring some tums or more zantac if you are prone to indigestion.

I didn’t even have to go as far as some of you so I can only imagine how uncomfortable you were. I think everyone is different though. I came from Oklahoma. But we had a long walk in O’Hare for a connecting flight and I walked the entire way. I felt fine cause of the pain killers but somewhere along the way on the flight from O’Hare to OKC I started feeling pretty crappy. My Dh started off the second leg of the trip a little cranky, and I was in the good mood but it changed. Then I had indigestion real bad, so I felt nauseous, I was sore, and I was tired and I got a little teary eyed driving back home from the airport.. I took my pain meds, and wished I had some tums with me, and when I got home I had to take something for nausea. The next day I was feeling like I did too much. I wished I had taken a wheel chair I think. I am glad we flew back two days after surgery.

I just went up and asked them if I could board early because I had abdominal surgery and the airline was more than accommodating.

Hi

Thanks for everyone giving feedback. God willing I am planning on having the surgery in February/March 2010.

I get kind of cranky with crowds when I don't feel well, so I think I will take the advice and try to at least get business class on the way home for comfort/space.

I live in Sacramento and it looks like I will layover in GA.

DOnCA, where are you flying from?

I told everyone my plan, but my husband won't agree--I told him that if we left today, and WALKED to NC, that I would be slim by the time we got there! (we live in Sacramento)!

Wow, airfare really went up. I booked directly through Delta and roundtrip for two was only $476 total.

Boy, I wish I had the strength and stamina of some of you ladies! I was miserable coming home. True, our bodies are all different.

I flew to Raliegh from Seattle. Our total trip time on the way home was about 9 hours. I took a pain killer before the beginning of our journey home. About half way I took another. I didn't need a wheelchair but DH did ask if we could board at the front of the line; that helped A LOT. DH also let the the flight attendant know that I had just had surgery and she found the person in the window next to us an open seat in the isle somewhere else and offered it to him; he was happy to move. DH and I were able to take up 3 seats on our long flight (well, I took 2 and he took 1 with me laying on his lap). I did have some pain but it was tolerable. Gl to you!

Try looking for tickets to NC on this airline - it is very inexpensive....www.allegiantair.com

Elderpb, when are you going? I am planning on scheduling for mid July (I am in Sacramento) and have been watching priceline etc for package deals. Let me know what kinds of deals you found. The most recent I got was $1,035 on priceline for flight, car and hotel (CH Sherraton). The cheapest JUST FLIGHT I found was $747 on cheapair.com.

I am not TOO worried about the flight back. DH will be doing all the work! I flew 4 days post C-Section with my son (although that was 11 years ago.) I think everyone is giving good advice though, the key is just to keep moving a little bit at a time, the longer you sit without moving, the harder it will be.

Good luck,

Sarah

I have traveled from Fresno, CA and from San Jose, CA. I really did not have that much pain. Have you had a c-section? If so, the pain is about 1/10th of that! I know that everyone has different pain tolerances. Just takes meds as directed for the ride home. I also did get a blue boarding pass when i flew on Southwest so I would not have to fight the mob of people trying to get on first! I live in Fresno...where are you in california?

Hi There,

I flew from Raleigh to London (UK) and then on to the north of England. The trick definitely was to take your painkillers regularly and to request a wheelchair as it is far more comfy to be wheeled around and they give wheelchair users priority. Also if you can have an extra night at the hotel so you feel a bit more human. Good Luck

I flew to NC from London UK. Had Tr on Monday flew home on Thursday. I didnt have a pillow or a wheelchair but I did make sure I had elasticated waisted trousers and my husband carried the bags. I took the painkillers before i got on the main flight from Charlotte but I slept all the way home and my husband made sure he drove the car back from the airport. I did try to go back to work on the Monday and came home by lunchtime and actually had a week off because all the standing up was uncomfortable. Im sure youll be fine

We flew to and from Seattle with a layover. I didn't request any special treatements but did take a pillow with me for the flight back which I didn't need. I did however take a pain killer right before the flight. I also made sure that there was a good amount of time for our layover so that I wasn't trying to rush from one plane to the next.

I traveled from SoCal. The trip there was fine, with a 30 min layover in GA...BUT...the trip home was way too hard on me. Flew from RDU to GA where I had a 4hr. layover, then a 4hr. flight home to SNA (John Wayne in Orange County). I almost passed out on the plane when I walked all the way to the back to use the "lavatory".

Friendly advice:
1.Request Pre-boarding status with your airline.
2.Request a wheel chair for return flights.
3.If possible, fly home 2 days after surgery.
4.Take a small pillow with you for comfort and bracing surgical area, especially if you need to sneeze or cough.
5.Take your pain meds as directed, round the clock, to get you through your first 2 days, 3 days if necessary.
6.If you are seated closer to the restrooms in 1st Class...use them!

CHTRC will give you a document to present upon boarding so that the airline will be aware of your condition and know to accomodate your needs. Typically airlines and cruise ships are supposed to bump up passengers that have such needs.

I had the wheelchair and preboarding status, but I should have waited til the next day due to the lengthy layover and flight home. My feet and legs were so swollen when I got home. Of course every woman is different. Some women have shorter flights and some women can do the long flight to CA with no problems. NOT ME! [Frown] Maybe because I am so old, LOL. [Wink]

Best to you!

Hello everyone,

I am wondering how far are some of you going to travel by plane for the surgery. I will be traveling from N. California and there is no nonstop flights to my area. I am concerned about being comfortable enough to make the trek across couuntry in economy class....
