I did the NT test (ultrasound and bloodtest) but didn't consider the amnio or CVS. Had the NT come back with concerns, I would have considered either of the other two.
Nothing to do with ending the pregnancy, but I would like to know the extent of any issues and prepare myself and the family. Thankfully, no issues arose that we needed to pursue further testing.

I am 39 and went through all of this last year at 38. I was NO on any amnio but I did do the Downs testing 1st and 2nd trimester by the scan as well and was fine with all. A few other blood tests too but nothing invasive would I approve. I think the thing is what will it matter..in some cases (i.e. downs) no matter what I was going to follow through with the pregnancy. I just didn't need to get too invovled with some things...can make you crazy.

niecie35 I am turned 29 right after I found out I was pregnant and they also asked us to do the 1st trimester screening we did go through with it but we also decided that if anything was abnormal we would not go any farther as they to also suggest that if you have an abnormal test result to have the amniocentesis done. We also decided we would do the 1st as it was blood work and an Ultra sound. I hope this helps. Congrats on you pregnancy

We were asked about doing the NT scan, CVS and amniocentesis. I am 40 also. My thought was the CVS and amniocentesis have a risk of m/c. Although small, it was enough for us to decide against anything invasive. We decided on the NT scan since it wasn't invasive and IF there would have been a problem with the measurements or blood works, at least we would know what to look for but wouldn't have went further with testing or termination. Like Anita, we would have loved both babies either way so why risk m/c.
PS. The Dr didn't have a problem NOT doing the test, but was just mentioning because we are considered "advanced maternal age-AMA".

Usually women over 35 are considered advance maternal age by doctors. These tests are routine to rule out the possiblity of Down syndrome, but they are optional. Hope this helps !

I declined at 40. My thought process was that we would love the baby no matter what, and so I chose not to do any of the testing they asked about.

I went to doctors on thursday and when i got home i got a phone call. They wanted to know if I wanted to do first trimester testing for Downs. Since I turned 36 this past July. I just wanted to know if any of you ladies have been asked this and who has gotten this done. Thanks Denise
