Hi. Just wanted to add that I have researched this in depth for almost 2 years. I could have this procedure done 30 minutes from my home, but I will travel THE 2300 MILES without hesitation to have my TR performed by Dr. Berger and his staff. I feel blessed that my DH agrees and supports this decision regardless of the fact that it will take more time because of the traveling, he will miss time and pay at work and the cost for the trip will obviously be more than the 2 gallons of gas I could spend going to the next town over. After spening countless hours over the past few years reading this message board I feel safe and confident about what my experience at CH will entail. Good luck to all in whatever choices you make. Txtrisha, I would highly recommend NOT going to Mexico for any type of surgery or medical care--I am an ER nurse and worked for about 5 years in El Paso (I'm now in Corpus Christi) and saw all the patients who went across the border for cheaper care then had to come to us to fix what they did. If they mess something up, it certainly isn't worth the savings--save a little longer and go somewhere in the US.

the cost of the surgery and travel expense are definitely a factor. the doctor that tied my tubes was completely capable, i just can't seem to find any info locally for tr's. (i'm close to corpus christi, texas) mexico is the answer for a lot of people i know as far as dentistry and other medical concerns, so i thought i would ask. i guess the time will be right when things fall together financially for me, and i understand that quality should always be a factor. money is extremely tight but when i turned 31 in november, it really made me think! i guess the "now or never" mentality has kicked in! thanks for all your replies....trisha p.s. i would happily finance my surgery but i have awful credit!

TXTricia - I am from TX too. I did a lot of research and chose Dr Berger. There were places closer, some cheaper, others more expensive but none of them had as much experience as Dr. Berger. Where in TX are you?

Oh I wouldn't have trusted anyone else to do a reconstruction on me but Dr B. I've looked at several other TR sites and know that Dr B is the only one that could have done such a fantastic job!!! Take Care of you and that little bean.

Angela I forgive ya sweetie, it's those d**n hormones. LOL I just think back to waking up from my TR to find out that for no apparent reason my dr cut off my fimbrias, which BTW wasn't in my pre op report. Nice huh? Too boot he left them laying in my abdomen too. This is the dr that his dad delivered my first 2 daughters and he delivered my 3rd. He's supposed to be one on the best ob/gyn's in my state and this is what he did to me. I have researched some of the other drs since my TR and have found that they aren't equipped or won't repair the fimbrias!! Thank You Dr B and the staff at CH your Wonderful!!!! What God sends you are!!

Thank you Kelli! You made my point exactly.I have calmed down a bit and want to apologize for my post.I HATE to be talked down to for no reason but I am an intelligent, educated women and should act accordingly.I just want everyone that is considering a TR to keep in mind that this is a one time chance and you shouldn't look at the cost or distance.Sure you can go somewhere closer and cheaper but you can also get a "butcher job" with no chance of conceiving or you can go to the most experieced surgeon and increase your odds drastically in conceiving and isn't that what it's all about?I'd rather travel further and pay more and have a good outcome. After all if you can't conceive after the surgery it's no bargain!Best of luck in whatever you chose Angela EDD 7/15/06 Thank you Dr Berger!

I need to say that there's no way I would leave the US to have surgery!!!!! I researched my TR from almost 2 yrs and in my opinion there's noone out there with the experience that CH has!!! Hands down if you want the best then that's DR B. To DH and I it wasn't about the money it was about who would do the best job and take the best care of me!! We traveled over 12 hrs to CH and I would do it again in a heartbeat, I know there's at least 1 Dr not 2 hrs from me that does TR's but again, I wanted the best so I went to CH.

Be it in the USA, or elsewhere, you will find that doctors differ in experience and credentials. The cost must be for all of us a consideration, but to choose an inferior service is false economy. There are few things less important or more expensive than our families, having children is a commitment to provide for them, and if I may say, do not short change yourself and your family by starting with anything but the best surgeon.
After your TR comes TTC and the emotional roller coaster of the 2WW's, followed, if blessed, with the commitment of parenthood, whatever the outcome a long journey is ahead, start out with the best and know that Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center will be there to assist in the future. Be it with early pregnancy monitoring, Hsg testing, or any of many thousands of questions that women have asked over the years, they are very much available and helpful. Dr Berger's fee is fully inclusive and (I believe, staff please confirm this) even includes a second procedure for the small percentage of patients that need it.
The proven results of CHTRC, and the follow up support from Dr. Berger, make it for me a "no brainer" I recommend you beg, borrow or steal (lol) the funds and schedule there asap, the experience is worth every penny, having an operation is a fearful event, do not add the extra worry of travelling to another country, go to Chapel Hill where your fears are soon put to rest, and women leave with a feeling of being whole again.

txtrisha, I searched the web for over a year and kept coming back to Dr. Berger - In my opinion no other doctors compare. I live in Canada and there are no specialists that perform only TR's like Dr. Berger. I had my TR on Nov 14th and it was the best experience of my life. Dr. Berger provided me a miracle - when all other doctors said there was no way for my tubes to be repaired - Dr. Berger was able to - I'm still on cloud 9!! I would never have given my trust to anyone else but Dr. Berger. I believe you will come to the same conclusion! Take care, Sandy
PS We drove over 15 hours to get to North Carolina - and it was a wonderful drive and so worth it!!!

not to step on toes here but his is for mrszamudio my husband and i was not saying there was anything wrong with mexicos dr.s but Dr. berger has more experince than anyone out there with a higher sucess rate af tr for preg. and that why he said not to travel over to mexico. we plan to travel there in june i could have waited but chose not to and isnt that the reason your on the board as well for dr.berger to do your tr?
