Hi, Everyone. As someone pointed out in an earlier post, this message board is a part of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. It is a private forum for patients and potential patients of Dr. Berger and is not the appropriate place for recommendations or discussion regarding other doctors. We are here to answer questions about tubal reversal surgery and, specifically, the techniques, care, and statistics of Dr. Berger and this facility.

Thanks!

Julia Smith, RN

fe,

I know of two people that have gone to a Dr in Mexico, they were both very happy with their desicions. One has conceived, delivered and conceived again. The other has not gotten PG yet, but she does have medical/fertility issues aside from her tubes. This particular Dr in Mexico is a very educated and skilled man. I considered him before I had my TR in 02'. In the end I did choose Dr B because money wasn't that huge an issue for me and I also felt comfort in the fact that Dr B had been peforming and specializing in TR's much longer. Just because a Dr works in Mexico or is Mexican does not mean that he is any less talented or intellegent. I truely beleive that everyone deserves to be truely informed of all the options before making a life altering desicion such as a TR. I wish you the best in your desicion!

Many Blessings, Johanna EDD 9/1/06

I have to chime in here as well.

I have not had my surgery yet, but within the next couple of weeks will be making the trip to CH to pay for it in full and schedule in person.

A lot of thought and research went into my family chosing Dr. Berger. It was a family choice and we all took part in researching doctors from all over the world.

We decided at the beginning that if we were going to do this, we were going to do it right and pick THE BEST. It didn't matter where in the world we had to go, how far away it was or how much it cost, as long as the doctor performing the surgery was the absolute best in the world.

I admit that when I saw how very affordable it was at Chapel Hill I hesitated. I guess we're all trained to believe "if it's the best it's the most expensive." But time after time no matter who we asked, Dr. Berger was praised as the best there was. My own doctor, who also performs this procedure, recommended him. To me that spoke volumes.

I would travel anywhere in the world to have this surgery and have it done by the best. I just happen to be lucky enough that Chapel Hill is only a few hours away from where we currently live. As for traveling far away and perhaps to another country for surgery and what to do if something should go wrong after..well, I for one would NOT want to return to the same doctor who caused something to "go wrong". I would seek out medical attention close to home.
But that's just me.

I haven't even had my TR yet and I already feel completely at ease and safe in Dr. Berger's hands.

Just my humble opinion though. [Wink]

I have to put my two cents in...

It is ultimately your decision who you choose to do the surgery. That is the bottom line!

Yes, it is true there are other doctors out there that perform TR's and I am sure they are good. But it was my ultimate responsibility as a patient to educate myself and choose the doctor that has the WHOLE PACKAGE and whom I felt 100% comfortable. I am color & gender blind when it comes to this stuff. It doesn't matter if you are a woman or a man if you are green, blue or purple...it comes down to the qualifications. QUALIFICATIONS! Do you honestly think these long-term members on this message board would not have chosen Dr. Berger if he was Mexican...that's obsurd. They chose him because of his training, experience and follow-up care.

I think a lot of the members have made valid points. I ultimately would not travel anywhere, whether it was North Carolina or Mexico without knowing the standards & protocols a professional follows and the recourse I have in case something happens while they are slicing open my body. All doctors are not infallible! But you do have to protect yourself because no one will.

Price should not be an issue when it comes to your body. What value are you placing on yourself, if you choose...lets say a doctor who is $1000.00 less? If it was going to cost me $1000.00 more to receive the absolute best care then I would pay it.

You asked us our opinion and that is that. We praise Dr. Berger and his staff because we have experienced their world class professionalism and care. We know how extremely fortunate we are.

I wish you the best with whomever you chose.

Good Luck,
Grace [Smile]

I don't think anyone is knocking the other doctor because he's Mexican. I really don't. We don't seem to have women like that on this board. I think all we are trying to say is "Are you comparing Apples to Apples?" There may be a price difference, but does the doctor maintain a statistical analysis of all his patients like Dr. Berger to determine his actual pregnancy outcome? Is his clinic accredited like Chapel Hill is? If so, by what agency and by what standards do they judge? What recourse do you have, and what followup care can you expect if you go out of the country? Where did he go to med school? If you ask the same questions of all the TR doctors regardless f location and nationality, you will see that Dr. Berger is heads above the rest. You get what you pay for. That's all we are saying.

May I ask did Dr Berger do your TR or did another Dr in the states? MANY of Dr Berger's patients have conceived within the first month so I really don't understand your point with that. I have seen many patients from Mexico that have had unfavorable consequences and that is what my opinion is based on. I would NEVER go out of the states and trust my body to any procedure. That is my opinion as you have yours. I had my TR 2/2/05 and am expecting our miracle baby in July so to say I am pleased with Dr Berger's work is an understatement. I am sorry it has been a year for you but try not to give up hope,it ususally happens when you least expect it.

Dr Berger is a really good Dr but there are many good Dr's and even the one in Mexico. I have got to experience him personally because I went with my friend. Her scar was very small so he is not a butcher Dr and they treated us like royalty. I have alot of other friends that used him as well. I am not pregnant after my TR 1 year ago from here in the States but two of my friends that went to Mexico are and got pregnant within 3 months of surgery and the other one has already delivered. Don't knock anybody until you have experienced some tragedy first hand, it's not polite!! That's just like being in a school and saying that only "1" teacher in the whole school is the greatest and the other one's are un-educated due to their nationality.

Be a doctor from Mexico, the USA, or anywhere else in the world. Dr. Berger stands out above them all.

Dr. Berger is the best choice among doctors for tubal reversal operations. He has he most experience of any doctor in the world in performing tubal reversal surgery, Dr. Berger has the highest pregnancy rates, makes his results available to the public by publishing accurate statistics, providing forums for discussion of all aspects of tubal reversal surgery on the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center website. He truly caries for the welfare of his patients and treats them with kindness and respect, and makes the operation safe and affordable as outpatient surgery.

How can you get nastiness out of my response?? I think sometimes people take things the wrong way! The [Wink] should have been a clear indication that there was no nastiness involved! [Big Grin]

Of course Dr. Berger is the best, and I don't think my comment warranted such nastiness.
