Luckypj: Dr Berger performs this surgery using a special technique that has a short recovery time. I had mine done on a Thursday and went back to work on Monday. You have cycle after cycle to try to conceive with the reversal. With IVF you have that one chance that is expensive. My reversal was in Feb 06 and am currently 10 wks pregnant. I would trust Dr. Berger over anyone!! It was definitely the best choice I made. Good Luck!

Dear Luckypj's There are physicians out there that do prefer women under go IVF. However, for most women -- except those who have had multiple site monopolar coagulation of the tubes -- tubal reversal surgery is the better option. Once the tubes are repaired, there is the chance that pregnancy can occur naturally each month. With IVF, medications must be administered by injection and a minor surgical procedure performed each time pregnancy is attempted. Based on current national statistics, the pregnancy rate for IVF is approximately 25% and costs between $6,000 to $15,000 for each treatment cycle. In most cases, tubal ligation reversal is the most successful and cost-effective alternative for pregnancy in women who have been previously sterilized and now desire to have another baby. I hope this information helps. Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions or if I can assist you with anything. I look forward to hearing from you. I don't know that much about IVF but I did consider it about four years ago. I do know it is very expensive with each attempt and we didn't have that kind of money to spend. We found Dr. Bergers website about three years ago and I kept coming back to it. We decided it would be easier this way because we only had to pay one time and could try to conceive every month (with no additional cost). I had my reversal in Jan this year and got a BFP in April. I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant and all is well.
I's too bad more docs don't suggest the reversal. Oh, by the way, my post op pain lasted only a few days and I was back to normal with a viable pregnancy a few months later. In my mind, this is the only way to go unless there is not enough tube to reconnect or there is irrepairable blockage.

I have pasted the following from a website I was just on. It seems that most Fertility Drs have this same attitude toward Reversal and all suggest IVF. Why??? There are very few women that I have contact with who have had successful IVF. Both of mine were unsuccessful. Why is there such controversy regarding reversal? Why do all the Dr's suggest IVF?
The Advantages of IVF Reversal of tubal ligation is a major surgical operation, with post-operative pain and four to six weeks of recuperation. The risk of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy is higher following reversal of sterilization than with IVF. A couple undergoing two IVF attempts at a clinic with good success rates has a better chance of having a baby than if the wife chooses surgical reversal of sterilization. There is no need to repeat the tubal ligation or utilize other methods of birth control after one's family is completed.
