Sweetpea, I am keeping my fingers crossed for good luck for your granddaughter! I did a little reading today( I work for an internal medicine dr.) from what I read the triploidy is a fluke also , it occurs in about 2% of pregnancies. It is not an inherited gene. It happends when the baby ends up with 69 chromosomes not 46. Sometimes they get the extra from mom or dad or 2 sperm fertilize 1 egg. So it does not look like we would have to worry. Again fingers crossed that everything is well with your granddaughter Michelle

Hi Michelle~ I wish there was an easy answer for this but there isn't. My Granddaughter is currently undergoing genetic testing for several things...(she also had the rocker bottom feet.) She has undergone corrective surgery on both of her tiny feet. Meeting with several Geneticists the testing is extensive and we still may not have any answers in the long run. Her doctors seem to think that it was a fluke. She is only 11 months old so time will tell. Both Mom and Dad check out with no unusual gene.

I was wondering if anyone new the answer to this. I knew my husband and his ex-wife lost a baby but I just found out what had happend. I guess there was some question of Trisomy 18 or 21. His wife's letter goes on to say that "it turned out to be worse, the baby had Triploidy, rocker feet, a small left heart ventricle, fluid on the brain and poor kidney function." I feel so bad for them but at the same time I am concerned for what that means for us. Was this a genetic fluke or is it something that he could carry? Thanks Michelle
