Although Dr. Berger has not published statistics on this, I can tell you that a number of women with post-tubal ligation syndrome (PTLS) have had TR surgery and felt much better afterwards. We sometimes find this out when we call the patient for a 6-month follow-up, and other times patients have called us a couple months after surgery to let us know. Though there are no guarantees, it's worth a try!

Dear Ericka, Forgive me for inquiring, But I was wondering, did you had these types of PTLS symptoms also? And if so, Have you found any relief / help from anything / vitamins, supplements etc? I am seeking to have TR to restore my health and well-being AND if God willing, have a 3rd child, which truly would be heaven sent! ***Also just a side note, for fellow posters on this page: To supplement folic acid I also mix in wheat germ (very high in folic acid) with my peanut butter. I usually have a decaf cup of green tea and 1 slice toast on stone-ground whole wheat bread spread with JIF low-sugar peanut butter and then sprinkled liberally with "MOTHER'S Wheat Germ" Cost approx $3.00 for a large jar- Keep in refrig for max. freshness( MOTHER's is actual name brand! Maybe it's good Luck! SMILE!) Thank you for your time and advice, Most Sincerely, "MINNIE"

Paula -I do not know if there is any truth to this, but I read on the internet that folic acid can be helpful when ttc. Who knows?
Minnie - Wow you have been through a lot. Welcome to the board. I do not post very often anymore. Sometimes I check in to see if there is some chance I can help someone just as someone else helped me.

Hi Minnie, welcome to the board! Tubal Ligation Syndrome, also called Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome (PTLS) or Post Tubal Syndrome (PTS), refer to a variety of symptoms that are first reported after a tubal ligation and are therefore attributed to the operation. Common symptoms include increased menstrual pain, bleeding, and premenstrual tension. You may want to take a look at the testimonial pages to see what previous patients have to say about PTLS. If you have additional questions, feel free to email me at ErickaP@chfc.net.
Today I spent another day crying in the shower... I really do not Know where to to begin, unfortunately I too, made the mistake of opting to have my tubes tied after the long labour and scary C-section of my 2nd child back in 2001. The birth scenario was very frightening to me, close to 20 hrs of induced labour and then an emergency C-section. I always hated taking BCP and knew deep down inside there was know way they could really be good for me, but I took them from age 18 to 30. I am fortunate to have conceived 2 wonderful children, which I thank God for everyday. After having my tubes tied (actually they were "banded" with surgical bands) I experience severe periods --- just horrible, soaking through extra-super tampons & pads, and yes even though I was very attentive to the situation, it still soaked through my pants. As you can imagine I have many pairs of black pants in my closet. From these heavy duty periods w/clots I became slightly anemic, which I have worked hard to restore my iron levels via diet & supplements. I was later dx as being hypothyroid, which I now take Synthroid. During this time I noticed an increase in chin acne and small black hairs on chain, which I pluck daily. One day last summer was very frightening as I had a major shedding of scalp hair, it has since tapered off, I now have 50% of the hair I used to have,it is very thin and you can see my scalp in the sunlight. (Very attractive, eh?) My Endo was very undertsanding and after scores of blood work it was decided that I was slight insulin resistant also, so now I am on Glucophage Extended Releas twice daily. I follow a dietbetic diet and consume low carbs - no refined sugars or white flours/corn/potates. This and daily walks have helped keep my weight down to 120 lbs on a 5'4" frame. The reason why I am sharing these details is, my Dr. thinks I am crazy, but believe me, I never had these types of problem prior to have my tubes tied --- This was the worst thing of my life to have done and I am filled with remorse. I only wished someone would have told me about possible ramifications.I am very grateful to have "stumbled" upon your wonderful website and am just wondering if anyone out there experinced somewhat similiar symptoms and if the Doctor / Nursing Staff felt there might be any hope for someone with such symptomsd??? I just want to be whole and restored to my former self. And, yes I do long for another child, as I never knew I so much capacity for love and really enjoying my children, both as a parent and a friend. Is there anything I should diet wise or with supplements / vitamins ahead of time to further "strengthen" my system? I am sorry for such a very long post and my newbie questions... Thank you all for your time and wisdom. I didn't know where else to turn. Most Sincerely, (41 year old) Minnie

Paula, You should start pre-natal vitamins before trying to conceive. It is important to have the folic acid in these vitamins in your system before you become pregnant and then continue to take them through pregnancy. Folic acid protects the baby from neural tube defects. Pre-natal vitamins, along with a healthy, balanced diet just add to the health of your body and the pregnancy.

Hi Paula, When I scheduled my TR I talked w/ the nurse about medications I am, and am not on,, ( I'm not on any) but I did tell her that I just started taking Calcium again, and she told me I can start taking Prenatal Vitamins now. If you look at the ingredients of prenatal vitamins, they do contain much of the daily requirement for many different needs, incuding Folic Acid. I drink my glass of OJ every morning with my Calcium and prenatal, and it's been 2 weeks of that. My TR is scheduleded for August 1st.

Reading some of the posts I've noticed that some of the ladies that are TTC have said that they are taking prenatal vitamins. Is this supposed to help prepare your body for pregnancy and help keep your body from possibly rejecting the pregnancy? I'm schedule for June 6th for TR, would I have to wait until after my TR to start the vitamins?
