My 2 cents worth is this. I am a very good judge of people and it may sound weird, but I get a gut reaction to peoples faces.

When I was online and looked at Dr. Berger my heart fluttered and my stomach felt warm. He appeared to be the kind of person that we all want to know. He's warmth radiates, even through pictures.

I am not a very religious person, but the look in Dr. B's face says generous, warm, genuine, faithful.

Once I spoke with him in person, I chuckled because my husband thought I was nuts when I told him how I felt from Dr. B's picture. Once we sat together, my husband knew what I was saying.

The gift that Dr. B can give some of us is such a precious, unforgettable gift. Some people just have this gift giving ability, and Dr. B is one of them.

Am I a spokes person for for Dr. B. because I had the TR and got pregnant? NO. I did have the TR, 15 months ago, but no baby, but I still feel the same about Chapel Hill. If you have followed any of my posts, I get very frustrated and mad at times, and voice these feelings, but it is in frustration and mainly with my body and my husbands lack of interest in babies that I vent, not at all aimed towards Dr. B and his staff.

Patti, RN, is fabulous!!!! They all are, but Patti is the one I deal with the most. Emails are always answered, phone calls always treated kindly and as if they were Patti's most important duty of the day. The total overall care of the TR center is W O N D E R F U L !!!

You cannot go wrong by going to CH.

Enough said.

I have yet to have my surgery. But when I started looking on line...all the other places didn't take hold of me. When I found this web site, I knew in my heart that that was where I was going to go to get my TR done. When I spoke w/ my husband, he agreed so "where two or three agree". When I told my mother what I wanted to do she was shocked and said to check him out on BBB...I did and it came back clean. I know there are specialist here in Cali, I looked and none of them seemed "real". When I ordered the video and watched that sat it in stone for me.

OMG! I love answering these questions! I have so much I could say about Dr B and his staff, but that would take a whole book, so I will try to be brief!

I chose Dr B because after researching all of the other Dr's out there, I knew in my heart of hearts, that Dr B was special. I was not impressed with the way the other doctors presented themselves or the childish illustrations they post on their website against other doctors, especially against Dr B. Do you know why they do this? Because they know Dr B is the best and they will do whatever they have to do to step on him to make themselves look good. It is very unprofessional the way they carry on. One of the other known Tr dr's is only 5 hours east of me, I am in Missouri, but I drove 14 hours to Dr B instead because I knew he was the best choice for me and I did not like the way he (the other dr) criticized other doctors. If you notice, Dr B does not have to carry on this way because his work speaks for itself. I can email Dr B and/or his staff at anytime and they ALWAYS get back to me and 90% of the time it's immediately. They don't just do your TR and forget about you. I had my TR 4 yrs ago, and they are still here for me through all of my highs and lows. I call or email all the time for advice, and they have never steered me wrong!

I had my TR 11-15-01 and am currently PG with my 3rd TR PG. I have one TR baby who is almost 2 1/2, 2nd one was a m/c (which has nothing to do with a TR), and am a little under 5 weeks with my 3rd! Dr Berger and how my TR has changed my life encouraged me to write a book on Tubal Reversals. It is filled with about 35 stories from patients of Dr B and as you read each chapter, you can feel the emotion these women have for Dr Berger and all he does for us! Just read the testimonials on his website and you can see for yourself what we all have to say about him! The other dr's may appear to have thousand of people on their message boards, but they are automatically subscribed to it to boost numbers. If you don't see thousands here, it's only because they are all so busy taking care of all their Berger babies!!!

To go with Dr B is a WIN/WIN situation! I could carry on forever, but I am sure you get the idea! Best of luck to you!

How to recognize the best doctor

Choosing the best doctor is the most important decision to make when having tubal reversal surgery. According to members of the Tubal Reversal Message Board, these factors will help you make the best choice: the doctor's credentials and experience; the number of tubal reversal surgeries that he performs on an ongoing basis; testimonials from previous patients about their experiences with the doctor and his staff; responsiveness of his staff to questions before surgery; follow-up after surgery and during early pregnancy; availability of detailed information about all aspects of the care provided; statistics about pregnancy rates and pregnancy outcomes; and cost.

That is a GREAT question!

I am having my TR Nov 14th and can not wait to meet everyone at CH.

My decision was based on several variables. I researched Dr. Berger's background completely. You really could not ask for more impressive credentials and experience in a physician/surgeon. He is simple the best man for the job! Dr. Berger and CH staff have done a superb job addressing every single question or concern and answered it throughly leaving no inkling of trepidation with the decision I have made. And of course, kudos go to my TR sisters, who have also guided me and answered other questions openly giving me first-hand experiences which were so invaluable.

I think you will find alot of women here would say, "I wish my regular doctor was like Dr. Berger and staff" well as least that's how I feel.

Plus, I have said this several times, it absolutely amazes me that Dr. Berger takes the time to read emails and answers them. Just yesterday, I wrote about preparing for the surgery with my Nov TR sisters and asked briefly about Keflex (an antibiotic) and there he was answering the question. You get me everytime Dr. B!!!!

Finally, I am at total peace with my decision and hoping for the chance of having one more baby. The TR is NOT A GUARANTEE that you will become pregnant but it will give me more chances than the IVF "one shot deal" and I am correcting a mistake that I made to make myself whole again. I have approached this with a healthy, positive attitude and don't have unrealistic expectations.

Best wishes and peace with whatever decision you make,
Grace

I had my TR a year ago on Nov 10th, 2004. Dr. Berger is great as is his whole staff. Ultra-professional and yet the most compassionate bunch I have ever met. They even helped me through my total needle phobia. I was more scared of the IV than the surgery! Anyway, do the research on statistics of TR alone (most docs lump in all their procedures together, not just TR) and you'll see that Dr. Berger is the best in that aspect as well. Good luck with your decision!

You'll probably get a hundred replies to this thread saying the same thing - Dr Berger's skill, his experience, the streamlined, worry-free package that is set up for his patients...that's why I made the choice. And the wonderful stories from ladies on this board while I was waiting for my turn...it was an obvious choice for me.

Having my TR with Dr Berger was an amazing experience, being there in Chapel Hill was the most exciting time - almost surreal. It's the closest I've ever felt to my husband. I am still thankful daily that I was allowed to be part of something so special.

Enough gushing! I hope this answered your question [Smile] Best of luck to you.

Great question! I can tell you that I am a nurse -- which makes me even harder to impress -- and the reason I chose Dr. Berger after having EXTENSIVELY researched this procedure, as well as having meet with "specialists" in two other states -- simply put -- is because Dr. Berger is the MOST qualified surgeon in the field of TR and has performed the greatest number of TR's ever ...anywhere.

Couple the aforementioned with his impressive credentials... there ya have it!

I'll share with you that Dr. Berger performed my TR just last week (Thursday). I'm currently recuperating and very excited about the prospect of becoming pregnant.

I'd like to say that in addition to Dr. Berger's stellar skill level, his nursing staff is exceptional. Every single nurse...from his office to the operating room -- are just AMAZING.

I could not have made a better choice...received better care....or been in better hands -- anywhere else.

I hope you find comfort in my answer to your question.

Whatever you decide -- I wish well.

I have not had my TR yet, it is 11/14 but i will tell you why I chose Dr Berger. I looked into having my OBGYN do the reversal and he said it was not possible, then I looked into IVF which was $20,000 and when I called that facility i got a answering machine and I left a detailed message and to this day have not heard from them. I lingered around on this board for a while...just reading and I saw the wonderful things the girls had to say about their experiances with CH. So, I had my reports sent to see what would happen and in not time I got the notice that I was a good canidate and it went from there. Everyone that I have spoken to or e-mailed there has been so friendly and helpful. Sometimes I would hit send on my e-mail and it seemed like BAM I got my answer (Jennifer is awesome!) his stats were what impressed me too this man is amazing. I thought I was SOL and now i know it can and does work. I can not wait to meet all of those amazing people at Chapel Hill. After being on this board for a little bit and reading the amazing things I have read I wouldn't have anyone else do my surgery.

Cynthia,

I guess what really impressed me is I emailed the other DR's and it is now almost 4 years and still no reply. DR. B's staff got back to me within hrs. I also was impressed that he was on TLC. Also after viewing the video they sent. THAT sealed the deal.

Well when I met them they were great. First time I didn't get sick after surgery. They listened and did everything to prevent it. They took really good care of me. Also my Tubaligation DR. had lied on my OPerative report about what he did. I could see how hard it was for DR. B. to tell me what I wound up with. The Dr. Burned out my whole right tube ,and I have 1.5cm on the left. DR. B told me miracles happen ,and I have been holding to that ever since. I beleive. He is kind and compassionate. They always answer you. Even after TR they still answer me it is almost 4 years later. Don't know many DR's that would do that even though they are getting NO more money from you 4 years late.

That is just my little input.
God Bless whoever you decide to go with. [Wink]
DR. B. Is THE BEST!

The number years he has been doing this and that this (TR's) is the only thing he does. But the topper for me was this message board they had nothing but GREAT things to say about him and his staff. Which having went through with the TR myself 3-25-05 they are all true then some.
Even if I never get PG I don't doubt for a second I made the right choice by having Dr. B do my TR. Hope this helps answer your question on why I picked this one.

Since everyone here is a patient of Dr. Berger - or plan to be soon - what made you choose him to perform your surgery? It seems like a lot of doctors have websites, but what made Dr. Berger special..before surgery and after?

Thanks.
