I had a TL in 2002 the day after I gave birth to my youngest child (who is now five). The reason for my TL was that I was in a very abusive relationship at the time and I didn\'t't want to bring more children into that situation. I am no divorced. However, the symptoms of PTLS began when I went home from the hospital. I began having very sharp pain in the right side of my abdomen, (around the ovary and tube area). I went to the doctor and he said it was just because my tubes had been blocked so therefore they were just (aggravated) and the pain should disappear after a month or so. From there on I've had between then and now, the following symptoms:
HEADACHES/MIGRAINES (debilitating) ABDOMINAL PAIN IRREGULAR PERIODS SEVER MOOD SWINGS HEART PALPITATIONS NIGHT SWEATS COLD SWEATS CLAMMY HANDS AND FEET TROUBLE SLEEPING (INSOMNIA) FATIGUE (MAJOR) FEELING OF HAVING A FOG OR FEELING GROGGY PHANTOM PREGNANCY (IE. all signs and symptoms of being pregnant without the pregnancy) DIZZY SPELLS LIGHT HEADINESS IRRITABILITY (MAJOR) UNCONTROLLABLE CRYING SPELLS ANXIETY ATTACKS. TROUBLE SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT FEELINGS OF DREAD DEPRESSION LOSS OF LIBIDO LOSS OF MEMORY (MEMORY LAPS) DIFFICULTY CONCENTRATING DISORIENTATION, MENTAL CONFUSION TINGLING IN EXTREMITIES COLOR CHANGE IN VAGINAL AREA VAGINAL DRYNESS. and more... All of these I have dealt with and some I still deal with today, either moderately or majorly. I went to the doctor in early 2006 when things were at their worst, and she said I Was dealing with Perymenopause. or Pre-menopause. I will tell you this now, I'm 28 getting ready to turn 29. Pre-menopause doesn't usually begin until around the mid thirties. Anyway, I just had a CT done to figure out why I'm having so many headaches and why they are as sever as they are. My doctor has put me on medication for the headaches.
It's been suggested in past visits to doctors that Stress was the cause for all my problems. Since I've found out about PTLS I know now that I'm not crazy, because believe me, i was begining to think there for quite awhile that i was going crazy, or that I had already reached that mark. Hopefully now that I've found this, i can show it to my doctor. We are going to be discussing possible TR. Unfortunately, (with my insurance) unless there is a medical reason for the TR they won't cover it. I am hoping that TRICARE will cover this TR and allow me to get my life back, since I can't even hold down a job because the symptoms are so irratic and debilitating, that I end up haveing to take too much time off work. I hope that someone can help me with this problem. Maybe I can be refered to the Dr. Here for Tricare? Any knowlege of weather that would be possible, please let me know. Thank you all and good luck to all that are dealing with the same problem. as an added note, had I been informed about PTLS before my surgery, I never would have had it done.!!!

There's been a lot going on with me since my TL. I honestly never really considered PTLS until I started reading the posts by many of you on the board. I didn't even know there was such a thing. I know I have felt "different". My moods are weird and my husband has mentioned things about me since about 6 months or so after my TL. I just shrugged it off as him being a man. I really hope that a TR will help change me back to the normal Cora.

Wow!! This is a relief...there is such a thing as PTLS!!! I knew from the day I had a TL it was a huge mistake!! I can't wait to feel normal again!! I also can't wait to have a baby!! I think the worst was my hormonal stuff...awful temper, upset, depressed. All the other symptons were there, but I am looking to the future and waiting on my TR!!!

Hi Tiffany... I had all your symptoms! If we only knew the hell we were in for. I had six doctors tell me my symptoms were not from the tubal ligation, Thank God I did not believe them! We know our bodies better than anyone. Dr.Berger is the only doctor I know that believes in PTLS. You will love him and his staff! It was worth every Penny! I had my TR 8/23/07 and can tell you every month gets better. Hang in there , Lynn

WOW! I could take all of your responses, put them together, and that is how I feel daily! I have been an emotional wreck since the day I had TL. The physical symptoms you all have mentioned are pretty scary and I completely understand them all. I could cut and paste your responses on a piece of paper and that would describe me to a T! Makes me want to rush to get my surgery even more.. I always tell everyone I feel 1/2 right 1 week out of the month. I even have extreme pain during Ovulation. (Which is now and I'm crampy, bloated, and miserable for New Year Yeah.. LOL) I wish you all the best of luck and hope the TR takes away all of this mess for each and every one of us! Take care everyone.. Have a Safe and Happy New Year! Me-33 DH-35 EP-'93 DS-13 DS-10 TL-'97 TR-Hopefully March
I had the same symptoms that most of you had mentioned- then I had my TR in march 2007 and i have seen my body "coming back to life" and the PTLS have lightened up big time-- but some I still have-- Dr.'s never believe you and when I describe my symptoms they told me I was pre-menopause and teh only way I would EVER get Pg would be IVF-- SO searching menopause symptoms - sound a like like PTLS -- I am 35 just turned 35 in Nov. Could I really be pre-menopause or could the PTLS just getting my body back to normal more slowly? I have seen improvements and since the TR- my sex drive has come back- my hair isn't falling out like it was....
Tiffany- My Dr. all thought and think I am crazy too!!!! I have symptoms they can't figure out or explain why.
Good Luck!!! AND I say go for the TR - with Dr. Berger is was the best most understanding Dr. I have ever met!!!!

Tiffany--as you can see many women have some or all of the symptoms that you complain about. This has happened with such frequency that Dr. Berger is doing a study of his patients who complain of post tubal ligation syndrome. You will be able read more about this topic on this site and on Dr. Berger's Blog. Sally,RN

Tiffany my symptoms were: Swelling and bloating of my uterus to the point of it hurt to sit... Swelling really bad with water. That "stoned" feeling --- yeah all to well, head in a fog and you can't shake it. Joint pain Fatigue - to the point of needing to nap in the middle of the day. Emotional stuff I didn't have that too bad. My periods were lasting from 9-14 days. I had TR done Oct. 15 got pregnant MC got preg again and had an EP. Now finally I'll have my 1st period. BUT I can tell you I mark it all on the calender and with all that I still bled 8 days less than I normally would've!!! I also feel a million times better and that brain fog stoned feeling is gone... I had that from day one of my TL it was horrible. My thought was what the HECK is wrong with me!!!!!!!!!!-- it was really bad.
Sorry your husband is a jerk..... The stress you are under could be part of it too you know?? I've been there, alone with a 4 year old and a 8 month old stuck with all the responsibility... that alone is a huge stress. My ex was pretty jerky too. Key word is EX though.
Just realize if you get it done, you'll feel better most likely BUT you will get pregnant, if you are like me very fertile you will have to use something!!!! Otherwise you'll be pregnant non stop!! Look into an IUD maybe, it's hormone free, or you could give BC a try and see how it works for a couple of months, that may really help you. It's worth a try anyway.

Hi Tiffany, I've never done drugs so I can't compare my symptoms to a bad drug trip, but your symptoms sound just like mine did. I didn't know what happened to me after I had the Tubal ligation. I just knew things was different. I remember always asking other women if they "felt" like I did..and no one ever did..that made me think I was crazy. I didn't want another baby at that time, so I'm sure it wasn't the desire to have a baby that was bothering me. After 5 years, I had the TR..I can now tell you that I feel better than ever. Now, I do have a TR baby, that made things much better, since I did eventually want more children. I don't know how I survived that time in my life. It was a dark part of my life AND I know for a fact it had ALL to do with the Tubal Ligation. Do like I do...WARN the women around you about the surgery.

After my TL I too have not been myself. I even hurt way more when I have a cycle and a lot more moody. Use to I never had to take any thing for pain but I take it all the time now it seems. I told me husband I would love to be blessed with a baby but, if the TR can just change everything back to the way it was I will be very grateful. And every thing will be worth it all. The baby is really a extra blessing if God choices to bless. I am hoping for a TR in March of 2008.

Hi Tiffany, Unfortunately the only thing that is going to help you is a TR !! I had my TL back in 2001 and my life was also HELL!! I had all kinds of test ran including all the hormonal stuff too. My DR. told me I was just getting older and like you I knew I was not crazy!! To give you the shorter version...I had all kids of issues and my DH and I had 5 children together so I was not interested in getting preg. again. I just wanted my life back. So, after 4 1/2 years I decided to do a little internet research on this and found this site...thanks to Jesus !!! Because I scheduled in 3 weeks following reading about PTLS and had my TR. I am very happy to tell you that since the very first menstrual cycle I have come closer each month to getting back to my old self. I had my TR 3/13/06 and since about 3-4 months following the TR all my issues have left as quickly as they came. So, I sit here telling you that whatever you have to do to get your TR do it...I truely believe that is the only thing that is going to help you. I have since decided that if we get preg. that would be great but, if that never happens I am truely grateful that DR. Berger gave me my life back. He is the only Dr. that did not make me feel like I was insane. I wish you the best and hope you can have this done very soon. Blessings, christie

I am wondering if hormone replacements would give me some temp. relief until my TR. Does anyone know? I had my hormone levels checked, but they're all with in normal ranges, except my testosterone, it's 122, which is a little high.
