Neutrophils are one type of white blood cells. My DH had a high level of white blood cells, and he had to be on antibiotics for a few weeks, but the dr didn't think that would prevent pregnancy all together. It usually takes three months for things to get back to normal. The total count includes ALL sperm, even the dead and misshaped ones. How long was it since DH's last "release" before he had the test done?

If there is some kind of infection--it can be treated with antibiotics.
No matter what the outcome, you should never rely on just 1 SA. There should be 2 done and then compare the results.
Do you know anything about his count, motility and morphology as far as numbers/percentages goes??
I have done lots of research on low morphology as my DH has between 2-7% normal morph. I don't think you have to worry about birth defects when an abnormal sperm penetrates the egg. It is thought that an abnormally shaped sperm cannot get inside the egg......My RE seems to think that abnormal sperm are not a problem when TTC as long as the total sperm count and motility is good. Low morphology (really low) has been known to hinder TTC----it may take a long time to conceive----although I have been pregnant 4 times since my DH's first SA (which was 2%). I have miscarried them all. I have also been diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder so that is my probem with m/c's.
I don't know what 'abnormally high total sperm count' is, try google.

mrsmorin, I am sorry I don't have any answers for you. My DH is about to have an analysis done, and I know so little about what "normal" is in this topic. I hope someone else will chime in who can answer the questions.
I know this is backwards, since I am already scheduled for surgery and the semen analysis has not been done yet. It took a while to convince DH that it should be done. He has never fathered a child, but he's never been sexually involved with anyone else before we got married (8 years ago).

DH just had a SA to check to be sure a TR is worth doing. Does anyone know what the presence of neutrophils means? I know it means possibility of infection, but what kind of infection?? The presence of this could alter the morphology of the sperm but once it's clear they'll go back to normal right? Does a low morphology increase the chances of birth defects in the baby or does it just decrease the chance of pregnancy? How can an abnormally high total sperm count cause fertility problems? Anyone who's been through this, I'd really appreciate your feedback. Thanks and best wishes for baby dust to you all.
