Thank you for posting the link to Dr. Berger's recommendations. There is great advice mentioned by you ladies and I would add to be sure to ask for a prescription for Doxycycline to take the night before the procedure to help prevent infection.

Chrissy, I had my HSG in August as well. I do have to admit that it was extremely uncomfortable for me but a lot of ladies seem not to have the same discomfort I experienced. My advise would be to take two pills prior to going (something you would normally take for cramps). I did not spot at all but they did tell me to bring something just in case. It only takes a few minutes and you will find out the results right away.
I would have to agree with Becki about printing Dr. Berger's suggestions or at least reading them over.
My HSG was painless. I've seen other women say it was a little painful. You lie on an x-ray table, and they insert a speculum, just like with a pap smear. The doctor cleans you with betadine, which might be a little cold. She then inserts a small catheter, and injects the dye. There will be a monitor there, and they might turn it so you can see too. You are looking for the darker dye to go through your tubes, and kind of whirl out the ends. As for me, the Dr used one syringe of dye, and it did not spill out of the tubes. Needless to say, my heart was sinking fast. Had she stopped there, she probably would have told me my tubes were blocked, but she said "We're not quitting until they spill." She asked me if I was ok, and then she got another syringe of dye. She repositioned the catheter, had me move to each side, then went at it again. The right tube spilled after that, but the left was being difficult, but she wasn't giving up. She had me roll onto my left side again, and then it spilled, and we were all so happy. It was great to have a doctor who knew what to do and didn't give up. You might have some cramping afterward, and take a pad with you, because sometimes the dye will leak out a little.
Follow what this says, especially 5 and 6 because lots of women get the news that their tubes are blocked, but actually, the test was not performed correctly. Also, if it seems that the tubes are blocked, send the reports to Dr B, just to be sure.

Chrissy I just had my HSG done in Aug~ Mine didn't hurt at all and it was done in few minutes once they injected the dye. My best advice yfor you is to print out what Dr. Berger suggests and give a copy to your person doing the HSG test- have them inject the dye slowly so the tubes don't spasm. Here is the link- I found it very helpful for me. And DON'T wear white pants!!!! I spotted afterwards too and should of brought a pantyliner with me- so you may want to bring one with you.
Good Luck, remember to breath and + thoughts!!! WIDE OPEN TUBES!!!!!

When I requested to have one done my Dr. just told me to call schedule one, but didn't explain anything to about the prodecure. Any advise would be very helpful.
