Mama12:It mentions weight (should be at a healthy range) for men And Caffeine(actually helps their swimmers swim faster and they think the effect adversly is quite minimal for men, might be avoided until right before BD'ing, according to the Shettles method) And alcohol ("The Bad One": lowers testosterone and shrinks the testicles, harms the liver and definitely hurts fertility!)The book suggests cutting back on both caffeine and alcohol for men to boot fertility.

Krys, Yay, there is hope for us!!! When I was pregnant with my 3 boys I drank a LOT of pop and the worst that happened is my oldest turned out to be a pop fanatic (Coke and Mt. Dew). I, too, will cut down if/when I get my BFP. Thanks for giving us hope lol. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Hi, ladies. I, too am a big Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Mt. Dew, Iced Tea, and coffe drinker. I can honeslty say that I did not cut down on any of it. Honestly, I don't like water, nor was I drinking any. I know, bad, bad me. I had my TR on 11/29/07. I got my BFP on 1/18/08, and am currently 16 weeks. Needless to say, ever since I found out I was pregnant, I am down to one cup of coffee in the morning, and a can of Pepsi or Mt. Dew once in a while if I'm really, really craving it. The only thing I can say was that my progesterone was a little low at first, but with using the progesterone cream, all is well. HTH, and I wish all of you sticky babydust. BTW, I am currently 32, will be 33 in July. Krys

Have any of you read the book, "The Fertility Diet" by Chavarro and Willett. It mentions that caffeine enters the ovary, uterus and fallopian tubes along with just about every other tissue. It also says that caffeine drinkers were 20 percent more likely to have trouble getting pregnant. It states that it is possible that caffeine may make the fallopian tubes less able to contract and relax, which could slow the transit of a fertilized egg. And, caffeine may in fact make the endometrium less hospitable to a fertilized egg. In a study that is mentioned in the book, caffeinated soft drinks were shown to be related to infertility. Caffeine did not seem to change ovulation, however. They suggest that if you don't like to take chances, that you switch to decaf or give it up all together.
Somehow I think everything in moderation is okay. So, maybe 1 a day would be the compromise! (Especially if to are weaning yourself off of it!)
I think it's a personal choice. I gave it up a year ago before I had my TR... still no bfp!

I just wanted to add that I've recently switched to decaf iced tea a couple of months ago. When i first started TTC over a year ago...I didn't think it would take so long. Now that it's been over a year and now that I've just turned 36 I'm getting a little desperate and looking into what I could be doing wrong and how i can increase fertility.

I was wondering the same thing. I did switch to decaff not sure if it helps. But i did talk to another lady and she said back in the old days they didnt worry bout this. Why is it that we worry more today? The dr said it was ok to have no more then 2 cups a day, and thats what i have but just decaff. Hope one of the nurses or Dr berger can chime in..
Changes in diet could be helpful in treating infertility. Studies show that consumption of excessive amounts of caffeine has been associated with delayed conception in women trying to get pregnant. Caffeine consumption equivalent to more than two cups of coffee per day has also been associated with an increased incidence of infertility due to tubal disease or endometriosis. In another study, women who drank more than one cup of coffee per day had a 50% reduction in fertility, compared with women who consumed less coffee.
Caffeine is found in regular coffee, black tea, green tea, many soft drinks, chocolate, cocoa, and some over-the-counter pharmaceuticals. While not every study has found that caffeine reduces female fertility, many doctors highly recommend that women who are trying to conceive avoid caffeine.
ALSO
Decaffeinated coffee has been linked to spontaneous abortion. Some researchers suspect that the tannic acid found in any kind of coffee and black tea may contribute to infertility.

That makes 2 of us. I am a Mt. Dew addict, but I have really cut down a lot. I am down to 1 or 2 a day from........well, we won't go there. I had the same question, but I was afraid to ask, so I am glad that someone else went up to bat for us caffeine addicts. LOL. If getting pregnant means giving up the "Dew", then so be it. My other drink of choice is iced tea. How does it rate I wonder?
