I wanted to say about the percentages. When I went in for my surgical consult. There were 5 of us in the waiting area. However only one had been on the board. She didn't come back on the board after surgery either.
So 1 out of 5 would be me for that paticular day.
I have a blocked tube however it is not due to surgery. I have adhesions from endo on it.
So where would I fall in, the less than 5%.
I've had a baby and been preggo not long ago since TR. So with 1 blocked tube and 2 pregnancies I say my odds were pretty good.
Here's how I always thought about it. If I hadn't done it I would have regretted it. I thank God I was able to have a baby. Had I not done the surgery I would have never known.
God Bless,
Kimberly

Thanks, Joy and Carolyn! We want everyone to have a positive test, too! We take what we do here very seriously and our goal is to help each person achieve pregnancy after surgery.

5% is a great percentage. Even if you told me it was 20% I would not have made any different decisions. I do understand it is easy to have it seem like there are alot of people with this issue. It is true, once you are pregnant you do not focus so much on the TR and any issues you are having. This board is a great place to not feel alone when problems do arrive. Dr. Berger has made me feel whole again. Even if I do not become pregnant in my future, I feel as if I have done all in my power and have no regrets. Thank you Doctor Berger and all you wonderful Nurses!

I totally agree with Julia Smith RN. I have worked in budgeting, reports and %'s So I know exactly what she is saying. And I do agree about women posting to have the support from women who might be experencing and going through the same issues. I had my TR by Dr. Berger and I hardly ever post but I do check in on a weekly basis just to read and see if there is any valuble information I might find. And I think we all new when we went into this that this is not a 100% guarantee we will become pg or that our tubes won't block. We just all have the same dream that this will help increase the 0% chance we did have. I had a wonderful experience having my tr everyone was so caring and I would do it all over again if I had to. Now just praying that I too will have a ++++++ someday. Good luck to all of you! [Wink]

The women who are pregnant or have had babies are generally not as likely to be on the board posting. It is simply a fact. We are aware of each of our patients who have reported a pregnancy and each patient who has reported a delivery...and most are not posting here. Since it is a support board, most ladies come here when they feel they need support. Perhaps the ladies who are pregnant or have delivered just do not feel the same need for a support group.

Most of the members here are not yet patients. And although they are supposed to be potential patients, many women join, read through once or post once and do not post again and the vast majority of the members have not yet had surgery. If we perform 80 reversals a month - and 4 patients report blocked tubes each month - that is 5%. If we have 20 or so women here who post regularly and 4 - 8 people are discussing having blocked tubes, it begins to seem like more than 5%.

We have addressed this issue previously and I doubt that there is more that can be said that will change someone's mind if they have decided that this statistic is not accurate.

Do you think that we release a hormone that prevents pregnancy and causes blocked tubes when we come on the board for support? This is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard in my life! So only people on this board are having blocked tubes? Go figure! Don't bother banning me for my statements because I am banning myself!

Then where did the ladies on this board come from if not a majority of your patients? I thought you had to be a ptient of Dr Bergers to post on this message board. Or at least someone who is going to use Dr Bergers' services to get a TR. I have seen several posts lately about the blocked tubes, and there certainly has to be more than 5%. And I just don't understand how it works that only the ones with blocked tubes and miscarrages and ectopics are the ones on this board. That makes no good sense. I am not trying to be negative, just looking to find an answer to a few questions so maybe I can choose the right thing for me. So you get the 5% from where? Is it just from the ladies who call and report to your office? Because that would not be an accurate statistic either.
Thank you in advance.

Hello all.

It may seem that it is more than 5%, but it is not. In one month, it may be slightly more -- in one month slightly less, but the average is 5%. This is based on our patients and the information we receive daily from women who have had surgery with us. Taking a sampling from this board is not an accurate way to assess the number of blocked tubes since many women with blocked tubes are on here for support, which makes total sense...but ladies with open tubes or who have become pregnant may not be on here posting. The majority of our patients are NOT on this board.

If you have one tube open, you can become pregnant.

I am a bit confused as well. When asked about blocked tubes after TR the answer is always "less than 5%" of both tubes so if that be the case what is the % of one tube being blocked. I have to agree i have been reading post for some time now and i have found it has been more than 5%. [Confused]
If somebody could please give me an answer to this question without refering me to a page on this web site it would be very much appreciated. I have read everything on this site probably about 20 times and there is still no clear answer to this question. I am concerened about this matter just as much as all the other women are.

Thank You,
Cassandra

Just a funny thought: If we were told we only had a five percent chance of conceiving we would be upset. If we are told we have a 5% chance of our tube blocking we get upset too. I guess you can look at the bright or dark side of things. I just pray my tube stays open.

The reason I question this is because I have two tubes but only one ovary. I wouldn't mind if the one without the ovary blocks but the one with the ovary blocking would be detrimental to me.

Hi. I was just wondering something. I have seen some postes on here that say that there is a 5% chance of either tube blocking, and other nurses saying a 5% chance of both tubes blocking. Just wondering which it is. I just feel after reading for awhile that it seems much higher than 5% in any case.
Thank you for your help

There is only a 5% chance of both tubes blocking. Even if one tube blocks conception can still occur with the open tube.
