thanks for helping me understand alittle bit more about this TR surgery and the age limits..im still going forward on this surgery and im hoping with the knowledge that i have read about with other patients and they are older than me that Dr berger can help me out too...The dr that did my Tubal knew that i really didnt want it done so maybe she left some room for me to have this surgery...
I wish there were guarrantees, but there never are in life. The thing you have to keep in mind is that after TR you'll have a CHANCE every month to get pregnant, and right now you dont have that chance.
Us older ladies do get pregnant - check out the testimonials page and you'll read some of their stories. It just may take us awhile longer than it did when we were young.

Hello Ladies, I have been reading your sayings about older women having babies after a TR and how successful is this if you are 37 years old. When i got my tubal done back in 1995 i wasnt really sure for doing this and now after all these years i regret this alot. But i met a wonderful man who is wanting a baby like me and now we are planning on paying the amount. Is there anyone out there who can encourage me on doing this TR? im alittle depressed that i even did this procedure in the first place...

Hi Elaine. I'm glad that you are experiencing more comfortable cycles since your TR. Many women report those same results and some women have their TR for that very reason. This is certainly a good thing! Thanks for sharing your comments.

I just turned 43 the end of March, and had my TR done on 4-14-05. I had many symptoms of PTLS, although I didn't know it .... then I've only just finished my 2 cycle since my TR. And my periods have changed, not lasting as long WHOOHOO...and not as heavy for as many days as before. I got my TR to GET PG!!! not for relief of periods, but it turned out to be an added plus Good luck to you
I'm so glad you shared your experiences. PTLS is my main reason for seeking a TR also. My GYN poo-poo'd my complaints, that started the first month after he did the TL, too. I've only heard of TR helping the condition. I just turned 41 last Friday (the 13th!), and I'm scheduled for 7/1.
I went for my pre-op labwork at my PCP Monday. The nurse who checked me in (you know...weight, BP, temp, what are you here for, etc.) saw where I needed the results faxed and said, "So you're gonna get it undone, huh?" And I said yes and explained why - not that I needed to, just chit-chat stuff. Well, she got all choked up. Turns out she suffered from PTLS terribly and ended up recently having a hysterectomy. Now, she's having issues from that too! As she was leaving, she said she would have gone the TR route too had she known about it!
It makes me so thankful that I found this website! I really thought I was going crazy , and, maybe, I am...but at least it won't be from PTLS!

Oops, how silly of me. I must first type a reply and then hit the "add reply" button.
I can't believe I have responses. Thank you all of you!
I feel as if I could just sit down and have myself a good cry, just because I'm not alone.
You're absolutely right about no one ever believing me. To be honest I have given up on Doctors and haven't went in such a long time. I lost faith in doctors a long time ago, partly due to my problems and trying to get someone to treat my mother for an unknown illness.

I'm so sorry for the PTLS symptoms some are suffering with...I had no idea that TL could have any effect on periods. My periods have been relatively easy on me all my life, 3-4 days, mild cramps, just the "basic hassle" we all go through. They did not change after my TL - i HOPE they will not change after my TR!
Has anybody had periods get worse after the TR? Why does severing or reattaching the tubes have an influence on menstrual cycle stuff?
Just one more thing for my neurotic mind to worry on....

coopdeville - you'll have to check with your specific insurance policy - call the number on your card and give them the codes that can be found on this site. A few ladies have been reimbursed by their insurance for a part of the fee, but for most of us, its an out of pocket expense as its considered an elective surgery.
Tfaith - I'm not quite 40, I turned 38 just a week after my TR. I have to tell you, that while I had the surgery in hopes of having more children, there has been an added bonus I didnt even consider before hand - all my ptls symptoms are gone! No more periods lasting 7-9 days of heavy bleeding, no more migraines, no more back pain!! My periods are down to 5 days, very little cramping (one day only) and I havent had a single migraine or episode of back pain since my TR last September!
It has been a trade off though - instead of all the awful pms stuff, now I get to deal with sore breasts - something I hadnt had in YEARS lol. All in all, well worth the expense and well worth going through the surgery to get relief. I was unable to get my operative notes as well, so opted for the lap. screening package. Its an additional 500.00, but look at it as a type of insurance! Dr B goes in through a tiny incision, checks things out, if your tubes can be repaired, he then makes the larger incision and does the surgery. If there isnt enough tube left (very rare) then he closes up the lap incision and refunds a large portion of the fee back to you. Just something to think about.

I'm very new to this site but just listening to some of the PMS issues that plague women who've had the tubal ligation makes me feel at home. I have one good week out of the entire month ever since i had the tubal and it's only getting worse. The pill cut down on my flow (a little) but my emotions are nuts...I'm blessed with a good man cause he deals with me like a trooper. Anyway does anyone know if there are any insurance carriers that will pay for the procedure or anyway to get BC/BS to pay for it. Or is this an out of pocket thing?
You are right about no one believes you. I had 2 docs tell me that I was crazy and one that got so mad she walked out of the room when I asked her if she didn't think ethically that they need to tell patients this info before a TL.
I thank God for letting me find this website and to know that I am not crazy.
I'm younger than you (30) but I had really bad symptoms of PTLS (Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome) after TL. Besides the horrible periods, I also developed debilitating migraine headaches with every cycle. I don't know what age has to do with it, but after my TR in Nov. 2004, I haven't had any migraines! That alone would have been worth it to me since I frequently ended up in the hospital with a morphine drip for them! I only had 2 periods after TR because I'm pregnant, but I will tell you that they were MUCH MUCH lighter and shorter! I was actually able to use a "Regular" tampon for the first time in 7 years! (TMI, sorry! ) Anyway, I hope you can find relief from your symptoms as well. I know firsthand how horrible they can be and that noone believes you! Good luck!
I am scheduling Thursday to get rid of my PTLS (post tubal ligation syndrome). I have had many of the symptoms you have except I never had PMS.I went to a GYN doc and she told me to go on the pill and that would take care of them. I have opted to have a TR and not have to take drugs. I am 43 and even if I couldn't have children, just getting relief from these symptoms is well worth the money in my eyes.
