Welcome to the board, Lovebirds3371! The screening laparoscopy is offered to anyone with a BMI of less than 30.It is all done as one operation. You are put to sleep and Dr. Berger starts by performing a screening laparoscopy. He makes very small incisions and uses a camera on the end of a long instrument in order to look at your fallopian tubes. If there is enough tube remaining to complete the repair, Dr. Berger will make the incision for the reversal and complete this surgery. Keep in mind that if repair is possible, you can try to conceive as much as you like. With IVF, you have limitations.

Lovebirds3371- I had a fimbriectomy reversal Nov 21 2007 and got my BFP Dec 18th 2007. We weren't trying yet of course, but it just happened.... We obviously weren't being careful either. Unfortunately, the pregnancy ended in emergency surgery due to an ovarian ectopic, which is very rare.... 1 in 7,000. We are lucky that it was caught early enough that there was no damage done to the tube or ovary. Pregnancy is possible, so all i can say is have faith that if it is meant to be, it will be. Good luck!

It is helpful for anyone who has had a fimbriectomy to read my blog post about fimbriectomy reversal. This indicates that an HSG or screening laparoscopy is recommended to see if there is sufficient ampullary portion of the fallopian tube to permit microsurgical salpingostomy, the technique that is used for fimbriectomy reversal.

Save your money for ivf...I was actually left with no tubes at all after my fimbriectomy. I still went for surgery (cause I had faith) and sure enough no tubes to fix.

Just wanting to wish you luck with whatever you decide. Before deciding...definitely send your OR from your TL to Dr B for review, then go from there.
There are no guarantees with anything when it comes to any of the process. We each can only hope whatever we decide..outcome is a baby.
I have been on both sides...IVF and TR....and even without the guarantee that I will have a baby...I'm very happy getting TR done. I wouldn't change anything.
I see you are from Indiana as well... HELLO Neighbor!! I'm in Northwest In...
Please forward your operative report for Dr. Berger to review, as he is able to reverse tubal ligations that have been done by the fimbriectomy method. You can also look at our pregnancy rates to see the rates of women who have had fimbriectomies reversed. I hope this information helps!
I really hate to say it, but the fimbriectomy + having so much tube removed with it, I would tend to agree that IVF would definately be better for your situation. I know it is so expensive and no guarantee, but I would take your tr money and add to it and try it anyway if you could swing it.
Some places have a package deal that you get so many tries for one price and if you get no baby out of it they refund a big portion.
I really feel for you, but I couldn't honestly tell you that tr would be best.
But still send your reports to Dr Berger he may have a different opinion...he is the Dr. after all.

Hello everyone. I had a tubal ligation in 2000. Little did I know or realize what was being done.My former doctor did a fimbriectomy and removed 6 cm off of one tube and 6.5 off the other. I have sent my reports to a lot of doctors and most say IVF is the way to go. But I have seen on this website of women who have had it reversed.I know the success rate wouldn't be great but it's more than I have now. The IVF process is of course very costly and not a guarantee. Our insurance covers nothing of it.Any words of wisdom or hope?
