Praybelieving - I see another posting about FSH, that I would encourage you to check out. The link to the FSH Info on this site is included within the posts. I had the test done prior to my TR last year, and I can't remember what it was...I want to say either 7.4, or 4.7 (I wish I could remember - but, I was told that whatever it was, it was good). I'm not sure how much that can change in one year.
Thank you for the Clomid suggestion. My June sisters have also suggested this, and I am going to look into it. I need to find a doctor, first, however, as my regular one has moved away from this area.
So - we're holding onto hope that we're still in the game. Too soon to give up just yet.

Matt, thanks for the encouragement. I really believe the counts will get better as well...just not sure it will be high enough to have a "fair" shot every month to acheive a "natural" pregnancy...although that is what we desire so much. I am being patient for now and waiting for the next SA before scheduling.
Lisa, FSH...is that something to check to make sure you are not getting near menopause? I have never had that tested. I am glad you have gotten some relief from symptoms since the surgery. I believe a lot of ladies have PTLS in some form and most doctors won't even acknowledge it...I'm not a severe case, but I bet I would see releif as well.
You really sound like you could benefit from clomid...since you are not ovulating consistantly. My cycles were very irregular years ago and after a year I tried clomid and I got pregnant first shot b/c that was clearly my problem.
Shannon, your husband's counts are good then, right? My dh is "clinically infertile" by definition. We just wanted to make sure he had sperm before scheduling my TR...we didn't expect it to be sooo low...to the point we are worried of putting our money in the TR if we need it for IVF. Trust me...we'd much rather do the TR to have unlimited tries.
I had my op report sent a couple months back and they said it was a go. I had 1.2 and 1.4 cm removed. We have our money saved and are ready...just afraid of the sperm count. If we had done like you and your dh and had our surgeries back to back, we would not be making a decision now...we'd just be praying and trying to fix the problem!! [sigh]

Hey, you all should test again in a month or two and the numbers should be higher. Lots of luck to you and please keep us informed . Matt Murphy,ST

I had my TR in sept of 07 and dh had vr in oct of 07. I'm 36 and he is 31. How long was it between your v and vr? My dh was 5 years. Count was 103 Motility 80% Abnormal forms was 21% Good luck Have you did testing on your part and sent Dr Berger your operative reports to see if you can be repaired?

I actually had my TR last year (June). So, it was prior to him even having his VR. He needed to wait until after motorcycle season (he is a part time motorcycle safety instructor) - and then we were married in Dec. SO - we just started TTC on our honeymoon. His Op was in October and his first SA was mid December.
For me, this cycle I am having an "anovulatory" cycle, I think. So, I might have some testing done on myself. I've only kept track the last three cycles, and it seems my luteal phase is shorter. So - we have a few issues to work through. But I haven't given up yet! Also - I really believe the TR helped any symptoms of possible PTLS! So, that's a great thing!
I sure hope that, whatever decision you make, that it all works out for you. I do know what you mean about the "wait and see", and the age issue... I turned 40 in December. Last year, my FSH result was really good. So, I hope everything is still good this year.

Lisamarie, What have you decided to do about a TR? Have you had the surgery? Are you planning to? Are you confident the count will come up enough for a pregnancy to occur??

Hi!...I posted this same question on the other forum as suggested and recieved other responses as well. Here is my response back: (Thank you Dr Berger for responding so quickly).
Thanks so much for all your responses. I guess my biggest problem with it all is not feeling like we have so much time to "wait and see" b/c of age. I really feel the repeated SA will be better and somewhere I read that it takes about 3 months for sperm to regenerate, plus we were right at one hour getting the sample in the lab's hands (not done on site). I was completely ready to schedule my TR today, but now I'm afraid to use the money if we are going to need it for IVF...all the while it takes a good 4 weeks to get an appointment for TR surgery...and I just have these feelings of urgency, thinking my eggs are just deteriorating as we wait every month! You know what I mean?? But, I also don't want to have the opposite extreme like you, Susan, and go thru IVF for $15k and it not work and the sperm count come up enough to have had a TR and try for "free" every month and worse case...have to do IUI. So, I guess we just need to wait it out a couple months to see if the SA goes in the right direction. I respect Dr. Berger for not "pushing" the TR surgery when he responded in my other post and being realistic about my situation. It shows a caring practice!

Shannon, can you share your dh's first set of SA numbers and repeated numbers after the supplements at 5 months? We did a little research and he started zinc and selenium, but we need to get C and E as well. Thanks!! Have you had your TR?
posted
My DH had a vr and the doctor told us to put him on vitamin c, zinc, selenium and e. This helps with motility, morphology and count. We had a total count of 103 million at 5 months.

Hi - my DH had a SA two months post OP as well, and his motility was low - but present. They said that was normal within that time frame, and they told him it could take up 6 months to a year to have a better picture of what it will be. He will likely have another SA done in the next month. Best wishes to you in your journey!

The fact that sperm are present since the vas reversal is a good thing. It will not be clear until 3-6 months after that surgery what the numbers will be. Right now, with the low count and almost absent motility (4%), conception is not likely from intercourse, IUI, or even IVF unless intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is performed. I recommend repeating the semen analysis again after another month or two and I think these parameters will be seen to improve.

You may want to post this same ? in After Tubal reversal and see if anyone has had the same thing with good outcomes you could also email Dr. Berger or his nurses directly to get a quick response....they also take phone calls... Good luck Angel TL 2000 TR March 2007 BFP April 2007 Madelynn Grace born 12-22-2007
To make this short...my husband had a vas- revearsal in March. We now have the funds to schedule my TR, so we had a seman analysis done (2 months post vas-revers). His numbers were low at 13 million/ml, motility 4% and morph 24%. We are confident that there were a few factors that may have caused the count to be this low and it needs to be re-tested. However, we are unsure of whether or not we should go thru with TR for me or look into IVF instead? Even if we did TR and my husband's count did not significantly increase, we could try IUI with sperm washing...is this correct? I would appreciate your professional opinions and whomever else has experience with the same issues, b/c we are ready to schedule ASAP. Thanks!
